I've read on their site I'm supposed to SMS

PORTME#<KIT NUMBER> to 083 767 8287 which I have done... I'm meant to get 3 confirmation SMS's but I have received none.

Has something changed?

Called them now, apparently the pamphlets and the website is wrong. You must not sms the Kit number, you must sms the SIM number, and if you did SMS the Kit number, you need to go buy another sim card.

What a pain in the ass.

okay,

so they allow plebs to write their pamphlets, and now you must spend more money....

So I got another sim, sms'd the sim number instead of the kit number - no response.

Called them, they tell me my first request was successful (the one with the Kit number), and the second one failed - there is a delay in the confirmation sms getting to me, now I must wait for tonight when the port goes through..

Let's see if it works.

Yeah their MTN porting number seems broken.... I bought 5 staterpacks and all of them are broken.... I had to throw them in the bin. I did port to MTN before and you do SMS the kit number and it supposed to work flawlessly but it seems broken now. We need to get MTN to fix it somehow.

As far as I am aware, there are huge issues trying to port both to and from MTN.

No resolution as yet...

So what exactly did you SMS? What format did you use that worked for you?

PORTME#KITNUMBER as per the apparently incorrect website / pamphlet was the one that worked for me.

According to the callcenter PORTME#SIMNUMBER is the correct way.

That is interesting cause I did port a number to them with the kit number before. Maybe that portion is just broken where the system doesn't want to reconise the kit number anymore.... Thanks for the info will keep that in mind if I do decide to port back to them in the future.

Looks like they fixed it finally. I ported my prepaid number from Vodacom to MTN last night. I send a sms PORTME#simnumber and instantly got a sms back saying porting is being processed...

I also got a sms from Vodacom warning of a port that is taking place and a number if I want to cancel the port....

I sent the sms @ 6pm last night and 7pm it was ported. MTN is the only network that ports this fast. Vodacom and Cellc delays the port to the next day maybe just to give you chance to use your remaining data and airtime.

Screenshot that is very easy to get the 79c rate. Just port or activate a new sime and you get free MTN to MTN airtime everytime you recharge and you are on 79c default price plan. :)

Now I just wish MTN can allow LTE for prepaid customers then it would be cool.

@cavedog you live a double identity. You on nearly every network .

Well I got 1 sim for each network BUT I only use 2 sims max. 1 is my cellc iphone contract. If I had a choice I would not use cellc at all. Then I have 1 prepaid sim that I use as a extra sim cause Cellc is very unreliable for me....

I witnessed a pedestrian knocked down by a car and while speaking to netcare the call got cut 3 times...... Cellc is the worst network for me in SA and I will not renew my contract with them ever!!!!

The cellc free minutes are just good for 1 thing.... Diverting calls to my prepaid sim

Ported my fiance over using the sim number and not the kit number a few days ago, also worked perfectly was ported by the evening.

Changed both of us to a topup R50 just so we can use Afrihost's APN.

All going well :)
