Struggling Denel's electricity cut off

Embattled state-owned arms manufacturer Denel had another tough day at the office on Wednesday, after the electricity at one of its major facilities was cut off by the City of Tshwane.

The cutoff took place at Denel's Lyttelton Campus in Centurion, which houses offices of Denel Land Systems, Denel Properties, MECHEM, and the SA Military Health Service.

"Olivier emphasised that the Denel Lyttelton campus should have been handled differently from other facilities because it is a National Key Point (NKP).

“It’s all well and good to say you treat all customers the same without fear or favour, but objectively speaking, this isn’t the same type of facility as a shopping mall,” Oliver said.

Cutting electricity to the facility could have created a national security risk."

How is that the municipalities responsibility? Seems like Denel leadership should all be fired for putting a NKP at risk no?

Denel didn't pay their account for three months (possibly more), but after disconnection could cough it up immediately. And the same applies to other entities as well, which tells me they're deliberately not paying when accounts are due. As such, I've no sympathy for them and they should be disconnected as soon as they default on their accounts.

I would think that the payment would probably be more of a "borrow from Peter to pay Paul" situation.

If you don't pay up, you get disconnected, like every other citizen.........simple, not rocket science. State institutions should not expect mercy or deferments. Find the money!!

Now get serious. Start cutting defaulting residences and those with illegal connections. That includes townships. People riot, dispatch the police to squash it.

I don't mean just disconnect the connections. Take the infrastructure away entirely so there's nothing to connect to.

The money's gone. Free ride is over.

Mr Olivier, I completely disagree, all Denel campuses have several industrial diesel generators, and Denel can bloody well run off of generators instead of failing to pay for the electricity that it uses.

Yeah they can't cos they won't get any diesel without paying for it... I'd also bet my bottom dollar that those gennys haven't seen maintenance in a few years let alone real diesel.

Now only if there was some proven method that could be implemented to get non-paying township residents to start paying their electricity bills..
