Many of the buildings cut off are in active disputes with Tshwane. The city is putting up this display of 'kragdadigheid' while they know many of the accounts are being disputed. Most businesses paid because they were put in an impossible position. The city will soon be forced to pay back these amounts once the disputes are resolved.
Or the disputes are just businesses employing a delaying tactic.

So for me the response should be the city lodging an urgent appeal with the relevant paperwork required and then get this dealt with in court...

Your bill is x millions but you are disputing R20k... You still owe x millions and get off.

Can't entirely disagree with the EFF on this front tbh...

Of course there will be contractual complications in how this is achieved, but the city really doesn't need debt collection agencies in my opinion, the city itself has all the right tools in its own chest to enforce revenue collection.

Ooops... bad move by that company

And fscking stupid by those 2 employees. Probably for a few grand bribe, they've lost their jobs.

Good. Corruption should be aggressively stamped out.

It's the main thing holding this country back.

100% agree..

The company and the 2 employees must both suffer the consequences of their actions now.

Be nice if they named and shamed the company directly as well tbh, but that might be a step too far legally for them.

Can't the COT decide to press charges against the company since they got it on video?

They may have got the reconnection on video...

Not sure if they have evidence of the bribe being paid though, which would be key to them charging the company (or at least people within in the company)

Waiting for the anc office in PTA to be cut off, then for them to accuse everyone of racism, colonialism and apartheid tactics. This will continue the moment their followers have their illegal connections disconected. I wonder if there is a connection between illegal connections being cut, and an increase in cable theft?
Well I seriously doubt that the cables are bought at MICA
