Mystified locals have set up their own 'x-file' after claiming a UFO could be to blame for damage to a wind turbine.

Alien concept: Did extraterrestrials cause the damage to the Conisholme turbine?

A blade was torn off of the turbine amid reports of "strange lights" in the sky around Conisholme in Lincolnshire.

An investigation has been launched, with The Sun quoting residents speculating the damage could have been caused by a UFO.

A local councillor has added his voice to the sighting of a mysterious light in the night sky.

"There was definitely something there," Coun Robert Palmer, Chairman of East Lindsey District Council, told a local newspaper:

The locals are certain the truth is out there and even the company that owns the turbine admitted it had never seen anything like it before.

An Ecotricity spokeswoman said: "We're conducting a thorough investigation into what happened.

"This kind of thing has never happened to us before."

The missing blade was discovered on the ground beneath the 89m high turbine. Another blade was reported to be badly dented.

But the spokeswoman was reluctant to speculate on the cause of the damage.

"An engineer has been on the site since it happened, early on Sunday morning, and is carrying out a sort of forensic investigation."

As we are building these wind turbines now as well will we also get a visitation ?

+4 light years of travel and they cock up the last few metres and hit two blades on a wind turbine. Talk about luck, almost makes you want to believe in other fantasies. I am betting on a radio controlled model air plane as the UFO. Any takers ?

Why do people always assume that they're from distant galaxies? What if they're from within our solar system? It would take them anywhere from minutes to hours to get to us.

Same. Probably some hot-shot that thought they could avoid hitting the blades. Given the cost of the repairs, I would also pick up the wreckage and leave ASAP.
