I also ridiculed the old iPhone for its lack of basic functionality. I was also one of the many who got a Nokia N95 when it came out and until a month ago, I still had it. Great hardware and far better than other phones when it launched.

Now I have myself an iPhone 3GS 32Gb and I see now what the fuss has been about. It makes a mockery out of Symbian with all its lag and complexities. Never have I enjoyed a phone as much as this. The interface and simplicity of use is second to none.

I don't think these new gadgets make the iPhone the greatest phone. They're just nice to haves. Its the iPhones slick and simple interface and large app repository that wins it. And its all thanks to Steve Jobs for that. While Nokia, Sammy and co were trying to best each other with the fanciest hardware, Jobs decided to focus Apple on the user experience first. I'm not a fanboi but after a couple weeks of use, I have to say the iPhone is far and away the best phone I've owned

Another one converted. And that is pretty much exactly my testimony for the last 2 months also :)

Nobody says they're groundbreaking, it's your iphone hater perception. ;)

True dat. ;)

...if you are to be truthful, because you felt it was good one upmanship...

Aqua - He's trolling you dude... There is absolutely no way that he has any grounds to comment on your motivation to post this link.

The trolls: don't feed 'em.

I posted it for an iPhone user who might find it useful or point out a better alternative :erm:

Personally I am very grateful that you posted this, I had planned on working one of those Logitech universal remotes into my xmas stocking this year but after reading this I am pretty much convinced that this is a better option - thanks bro!

Ha ha funny you say two years when I said I was using my N95 as a remote two years ago....

Your N95 is a crappy remote at best, you need to face that.

Firstly you have the issue of line of sight, then you face the paltry range that you will find on a built into a cellphone IR transmitter.

The fact that this device converts a WiFi command into an IR command is awesome and it makes the need to buy extra hardware quite sensible.

What I am saying is that this is not the same as your IR transmitter on your Nokia, it is quite different in function.

THIS DOES STUFF YOUR NOKIA DOES NOT, STOP TRYING TO ARGUE SPEC SHEET SEMANTICS TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER!!!

I really think that Apple / iPhone haters just don't get it, and then to fill the void they juice it up on hate. The 'fanboys' don't go and piss on your party, why do you come and piss on ours?

Enjoy your Nokia.

You are so right.

The number of times that recent converts have told me how they really can't articulate what it is that makes the iPhone a better experience but that for sure: it is better.

Since the iPhone was released owners of mediocre handsets have been trying to use spec sheets and comparison matrices to show what a ripoff an iPhone is, how it lacks so many 'typical' functions. What they totally miss is the fact that Apple has created a very elegant new and better way of using the set of functions that has always been available.

From personal experience: I had a WinMo device in 2005 that had functionality that my current iPhone still does not have... never used them though. It was just too unwieldy; underpowered; cumbersome and annoying.

What use then are kazillions of features that no one in their right mind would ever use????

Seriously: if you hate the iPhone you owe it to yourself and the people who have to endure your ignorance at least to try one out. Before you have done that - you have no grounds for comment.

Can't stand it when Lancelot comes pouncing around in the Apple/iPhone section and throws us his unnecessary 2 cents.....................

It isn't that the N95 is a bad piece of technology - it's the type of person that it attracts.

Hectually... I'd argue that it is indeed a bad piece of tech.

Large; clunky and not good very looking tbh.
Moving parts: never good (if they can be avoided and on the N95 they can - what is the purpose of that sliding screen? The buttons it hides could just as easily be bunched up with the rest of them.)
Over convergence: it tries to be all things at once instead of capitalizing on its strengths... testimony to this is its utterly eye-gougingly hideous battery life. On that subject: DSP effects for ringtones ...really Nokia?
Really?
When simply switching that one idiotic feature off increases battery life by like 30%???:wtf:
