TV licence payment warnings and your credit record — what you should know

South African TV licence holders who have not paid their fees should be aware that warnings from debt collection agencies don't necessarily mean their credit record is under threat.

A MyBroadband forum member recently posted an SMS he received from debt collection agency Revco, on behalf of the SABC, warning about an outstanding amount of more than R1,900.

I got the same SMS last week.
Goodluck with the trace alert, not getting any new contact information soon :) Truecaller been doing it's job well, too!

I think they have a few dozen messages and randomly pick one to SMS every day. If you read, a friend's SMS's, you find there is no linear sequence to their plot line, unless there is some time travelling in their plot line.

Not me receiving the following SMSs in March:

"FINAL NOTICE you have not responded to our calls and communications, pay R*** now on TV lic ******"
"You have ignored instructions to pay R*** on your TVlic. The account is now with a case manager for collection"
"We are demanding your immediate attention to the full settlement of you OVERDUE TV Lic"
"Your TVLic acc has been handed over fro priority collection"
"Your TVLic acc will be handed over for priority collection if payment is not made by 15/03"
"FINAL NOTICE on TV Lic *****. Settle R*** to avoid further ACTION and PENALTIES"
"Your TV Lic qualifies for a settlement. pay ONLY R*** on the balance of R***"
"We are demanding your immediate attention to the full settlement of you OVERDUE TV Lic"
"Avoid a trace alert against your ID at the Credit Bureau, Pay TV Lic...."
"A trace alert is to be listed on your ID at the Credit Bureau, deadline for payment is 26/3:

Mine is due now and I’m paying it because it’s just R250 odd and I can’t be arsed to fight the system.

Some things are worth choosing a hill to die on. This isn't one of them; I also just pay the R250 as it's simply not worth the aggravation not to.

Got a letter sent to me last month saying that there is no TV licence attached to my address. They were basically threatening me. I just ignored it. Haven't owned a TV for over 12 years.

How did the letter get to you? I thought the PO wasn't functioning.

Very funny.
I think the previous SMS was in a threatening tone.....

For R50 I guarantee they will not contact you again. Money back guarantee. Contact me for more information.

I found a fool proof way of stopping the Debt collectors.
