TV Licence fees must become compulsory in South Africa - eMedia CEO

TV licence fees should be compulsory for every South African household and the SABC must be supported by the government, according to eMedia Holdings CEO Khalik Sherrif.

Sherrif was speaking at a recent parliamentary committee meeting regarding the revision of broadcasting regulations and their potential effects on the SABC, which is facing a financial crisis and a controversial retrenchment process.

that is fine, they just want to charge you, but it doesn't imply people will pay. you know what I mean?
Just link it to something you have to pay. This is what government's new tactic is going to be. Watch

If they add it to municipal tax I won't be happy.

They might get household insurance companies to deduct it. After all they get car insurance to deduct that stupid mass riot tax, forgot what it is called.

Where will they deduct the new National Health Insurance from? From your salary? Will SARS collect it? What if you work for your self?

Look at that sectional title fee everyone must pay that was not so long ago introduced.

ETolls will probably be made mandatory by not allowing you to renew your car license.

When you are in power you make the rules. We just have to follow.

they don't care what you feel, you are happy or not, why they care?

I won't be happy too, so?

the only solution for this mess is to scrap the anc, otherwise, nothing you can do.

or you have other ideas? :p

I totally disagree. Income tax should (and always did, with additional advertising ) pay for sabc national TV during the previous white government tenure.
What seems to be the problem with this government.. Why can't they even run a sh*tty little not for profit TV station and break even..
I mean really?
