They don't really DO anything, that's the major problem people have them and being forced to pay for a license and get nothing in return.

It's much deeper than a rebellion against authority but a check against corrupt and self serving rule. Democracy my ass. Democracy is nothing more than two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner. Don't mention "basic principles" to me as if it's something that has virtue.

Democracy is not a good system but just one where all the others are worse. It needs it's checks and balances like we've seen with etoll. TV licenses have become just another tax as well of something that used to have value but now is not user pays but the minority paying for the majority.
Democracy is as you say, just the best one available. But we do not have to make it any worse.

Good Point

Here's another

Any Sales person worth his salt will tell you that they sell value

If SABC had any value to sell, they would not be in this mess, because people would actually want to buy their product.

No value, no sale.
And that is a matter of opinion, based on your own biases and view of the world.
Just like all of us. I stopped paying forcdstv because for me, there was a limit to the value of access to sports and a handful of the channels available.
I currently see no value in streaming services hence why I dont stream.
I have absolutely no desire to be up to date with the crap coming out of Hollywood. I could not care less if I have to wait a few months or years before the latest flavour of the month series hits the FTA circuit.

Absolutely! Agreed!

Unfortunately for SABC, from the figures of who pays tv licenses, it seems that it is a popular world view...no?

But
But follow the correct procedure to cancel your licence otherwise it will continue to haunt you.
Good luck with that exercise.

Yep!!

Wonder if they are still trying to collect licence money from a long deceased neighbor. She would only be 123 years of age currently.

I don't know about everyone else, but I have better things to do with my time than to watch a bunch of corrupt majority party politicians being corrupt.

So your solution is to kak en betaal?

My solution is to limit the amount of money I am forced to pay to support corruption in South Africa.

And not paying TV Licences is a passive thing, it is hardly a rebellion which implies some more drastic action like rioting in the streets, throwing stones at vehicles and burning things down.

Strangely enough rioting and destruction of property happens frequently is this wonderfully democratic country and the perpetrators of those crimes are not behind bars, would you prefer that people refusing to pay TV Licences are thrown into jail whilst rioting criminals are allowed to roam free?

For me it has everything to do with corruption, and I don't agree with your rhetoric at all.

The problem there is that the SABC has not completed its Digital Migration, and I suspect that the ANC is deliberately delaying the migration until after the next general elections for the simple reason that all the old analogue tuner TVs will require a set top box to receive digital and they are nowhere near ready to roll those out to millions of potential voters, ergo the propaganda will remain analogue until after the next general elections.

I did that a few years back when I got FTTH: monitors with builtin speakers (as well as a sound bar) and streaming boxes.
The SABC is NOT responsible for the delay in the migration process. The ANC and its cadres are.

Ja there are serious issues with the licence management process, just like with many other processes in SA.
I however have not had much difficulty in cancelling licences for deceased relatives. I have also not had any issues helping my daughter sort out her licence even if the method I used was rather unusual. It worked.
I was pleasantly surprised recently when becoming eligible for the pensioners rebate, the process was entirely painless.

Considering that the SABC is funded out of the taxpayer pool already, in addition to TV Licence payers, it's already compulsory.

I have never had any dealings with them that, where not unpleasant.

Know of a Grandson, who tried to get his Grans licence stopped when she passed, on, got endless hassles from the SABC, whereupon, he told them to go F' themselves, and stopped paying his licence as well.

Dunno who is worse to deal with, Telkom, or SABC.

your tax money (VAT, PAYE etc) is for all the corruptions as you mentioned

so if you have the issue, what you are going to do? don't pay any tax?

so can you not pay any tax in the future?

to be honest, the only possible change is to change the government, nothing else.

if "being rape" is your destiny no matter how hard you resist, so enjoy it. :D
Unfortunately I don't have an option not to pay tax. If I did I wouldn't for much the same reason.

If I wasn't so sure the government would simply squander my tax money my opinion would be different.

What a statement to make.
I must have been living in lalaland - thought it's been compulsory all along ... how STUPID of me being a law-abiding citizen!
Clearly there are several non-touching universes in this ....ed-up country!
Laws for some and none for the rest
