SABC CEO Dali Mpofu said the broadcaster would enter the space “one way or another”.

Obviously this boy, Poison Ivy, Lyndall and their crew all went to the same communistic school.

Tossers!

Its of no benefit to the nation if the public broadcaster is on Pay TV Channels - only their own bottom line - which is OUR BOTTOM LINE COS OUR FCUKING MONEY MAKES THAT BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These people are messed up in their heads. On the contrary, the SABC must instead pay the other broadcasters for their programmes to be aired. The want a free ride and get paid for it, nonesense!!

Gotta love it.

TBH I can see !CASA saying you must carry the SABC Channels, but there is no way they can force them to pay for the content, because it wasn't part of the original idea when asking for licensee's and therefore would materially alter the business plans required by the new providers.

So then, by proxy, the public will be paying for the same SABC content... twice (TV licenses). Yes, that makes PERFECT sense.

While MultiChoice carries the four SABC channels free of charge, it does charge the SABC for carrying its Africa channel
erm, aren't there only three?

I agree.
That and the fact you can pick up SABC with a coathanger, with or without a license, so there's hardly any need to have it on satelite as well!

IMO there is lots of unfairness surrounding the SABC. The law say we must pay for a TV license when we purchase a TV. The law was probably written the time there was only one TV broadcaster. Times has changed! There is now more than one service provider. The SABC has stolen enough money over the past 10 or so years. Besides, I cannot recall when I last watched any of their channels! Then I must hear stats where they claim they have so many viewers here and so many there. Based on what facts? The fact is that we are paying for a service because the law says we should. Whether or not we get the service is irrelevant to them!

I think if they went to communist school we wouldn't be in this mess we are in. Communism is after all for the common good of the people and not for profit in contrast to this capitalist system we have.

But, SABC Africa is broadcast on SABC2 effectively making only 3 channels again for the poor folks here. Probably counting the real fourth channel which broadcasts only a multi-colored soccer ball wasting even more of the license money, a channel which could be used to broadcast such things as, I don't know, RWC and ICC perhaps so we can watch our programs in their normal time slots when we want to.

SABC Africa is just the beginning of the expanding SABC that we get to pay for.

If they are "expanding" then surely they should go the route of all tv stations in other countries, i.e. no more protection through tv licenses. ;)
