Implying disagreeing with “woke” ideology makes you right wing.

Edit:

Didn’t even see this on my phone.
Exactly. That's some higher grade divide and conquer tactics by the wokies.

Because I don't think it's a good idea to have transvestite story/grooming hour in preschools, I'm now somehow a far right lunatic.

I do not know one person who is absolutely anti woke who is not conservative.

"My imaginary overlord/pastor/political idol/favorite billionaire doesn't like it therefor I won't like it."

The idea that you could have a look at something outside of the narrative and see if it has merit is beyond you. I guarantee that you lot have no idea what woke is beyond what you have been fed in meme's.

Personally I think the woke movement is mostly just virtue signaling, but they have some valid points.

Who in this thread identifies as something other than right wing or conservative that is unable to see any valid points in the woke movement?
Here is one left winger.
Can show you a few 100 more, but you will say you don’t know them and win the argument.

Just tell me what "gotcha" point you have so we can get this over with.

There is no gotcha point. I'm just trying to have a conversation about this.

To be perfectly honest, I only had a vague idea of what the first amendment said before our last conversation and I since have gone and had a look at it and its not entirely irrelevant to the subject.

I know we have smart comebacks and digs at each other in this thread, but nobody should be taking this personally. I'm definitly left leaning, but I'm always open to changing my opinion on anything as long as there is an actual reason.

First Amendment isn't a Uno Reverse card against all forms of persecution.
You are allowed to speak, and have an opinion - within limits, always have.
The first amendment was always about preventing persecution solely because of speech,it does not absolve you from the contents of what you utter.

That was funny, and he is spot on. I would not consider myself woke btw, overall I don't agree with a lot of it, but since they have some good points I would never consider using it as an insult.

The thing is he is only talking about one aspect of it. I also hate the gender swapping bullsht, and the moment when all the female hero's in Endgame came together for that pose was such a jarring thing for me it kinda ruined the marvel series for me.
As for history, we should be teaching all the history from both points of view. not trying to change it to suit a narrative.

BTW, whats the difference between the woke movement changing history to make them look bad for racism and the conservative changing history to hide their atrocities? Nothing.

The actual definition of being woke is to be aware of injustices in society. For example: I hate the bergies coming and digging in my bin on bid day. I chase them away, but at the same time I am aware that the fact that they value my trash, and are willing to cart a home made wagon with 60kg of plastic 20 km for R40 is a social injustice. Our government has failed them.

And I have to correct my original statement, I do have a liberal leaning friend who is anti woke. Tho he is a "fuk the man" kind of guy so he hates being told what to do in general.

The pot's calling the kettle black

Justify your statement. I think anyone who knows me, including many on this forum, have seen me change from ultra conservative and religious to what I am today. I have core ideals for myself and I measure everything else up against them. If they don't match I put effort into seeing which one is best in my opinion. As I said, I am left leaning, but I would by no means call my self left wing.

Yea and technically it only applies to government. It restricts the government from doing those things. Private companies are not bound by it.
But we could still take its principals and see if it would work for governing social media.

All these right-leaning gun toting Trump-loving antivaxxer flat earther boing boings all try to draw the First Amendment card as much as the ANC loves pulling the Race card. Meanwhile they don't have the foggiest what it means
(Truth be told the 2nd amendment is just as mis-used to try explain-away all their ridiculous notions)

Let me dumb the First Amendment down to potato level:

Without it:
"**** DA GOVERNMENT" - go to jail
"I'M GOING TO MURDER MY NEIGHBOUR HE'S A RACIST PEDO" - go on a watchlist, and liable for slander charges
"****" - depends how the judge feels that day

With it:
"**** DA GOVERNMENT" - perfectly fine
"I'M GOING TO MURDER MY NEIGHBOUR HE'S A RACIST PEDO" - go on a watchlist, and liable for slander charges
"****" - perfectly fine

It always has technically
People could say pretty much what they wanted, they didn't get arrested for it by Twitter, and if you broke a rule you would get moderated or banned
Nothing particularly persecutional

ROAR - right of admission reserved

Also if you feel like rabbitholing look into Canada's "Freedom of Expression" law vs USA "Freedom of Speech"

I used to be religious. Now I'm woke.

Pretty sure I got it right even with the big words :whistling:

Pretty much yes. This describes wokeness very well.

" I have core ideals for myself and I measure everything else up against them. If they don't match I put effort into seeing which one is best in my opinion"

So he takes whatever opinion the woke supremacist bloggers tell him to have.
