Kinda like 3D at the cinema, hit and miss. For me nothing beats a good set of headphones.
A decent of headphones can be great, but the problem with headphones is that the soundstage is rather close to your head, where as a decent sound system it can where it needs to be.

The Netflix applications are very inconsistent too though. The browser version has search at the top, but the others I've used don't, and they all, including the browser version, ask more often than not which profile to use.
With Netflix, you can save the URL for your profile as a shortcut/bookmark. Meaning I load into my profile every time I load Netflix.

Anyone else having issues with Disney+ this evening?

The quality keeps going really low and at one point the show even changed from English to some other language by itself even though English was still selected.

Disney Plus rate hikes confirmed, ad-supported tier coming December 2022

On Wednesday, Disney held its Q3 FY22 earning webcast where the world-wide entertainment company announced that its Disney Plus subscription service would see a price increase later this year. Hulu and ESPN Plus – two other Disney-owned streaming services – would also see rate increases.

Although Disney is increasing the pricing of its services (from $7.99 to $10.99 per month), it will be adding an ad-supported tier for $7.99 per month. Hulu will go up from $6.99 to $7.99 for the ad-supported tier with the ad-free version going from $12.99 to $14.99. ESPN Plus is going from $6.99 to $9.99.

Disney Plus and Hulu’s price increases are going into effect on December 8 – on the same day the Disney Plus ad-supported tier will launch. Meanwhile, ESPN Plus’ new price change will go into effect much sooner, on August 23.

Maybe I just don't bother with movies these days. I mostly watch series. Is surround sound a thing with series? I mostly watch UK series too... Not sure if that makes a difference.
It's critical to series and films. Modern British series also use surround sound these days.

What I consider a critical part of any movie or series is storyline and believable plots and acting. Sound is a distant second or lower. I'm not saying poor sound is acceptable, just that level of enhanced sound... Not so sure it's necessary for me.
Not having at least five channel sound is poor sound for me. But if someone doesn't have an ear for that then they're not going to notice. Just like some people will happily watch on a television with an obvious blue cast.

I find speakers always beat headphones. Even with modern processing that attempts to get headphones to simulate speakers.

Yeah there's something about audio that fills a room that makes it more immersive. No matter how hard they try with headphones and sound bars, the lack of depth perception is very obvious...

...it does? Has the OP tried to stream rugby on that so-called streaming package that DStv has? Buffers, then fails with an error leading to a refresh.
We have no issues with Disney+.

Fortunately I no longer worry about DSTV, and have given up on Disney +

Yup - I had great sound at one stage from just a stereo pair.

Though, I did add a centre and subs later to supplement, I really didn't even miss rears. Pretty much a 3.2 systems ultimately

It is a lot simpler and easier to get good sound out of a stereo system in most rooms, in this country.

I have only heard one truly convincing surround system, and the room and system cost more than most here have paid for their houses, and possibly their car, and that was a 5.1 system years ago.

Bad rooms, cannot give you good sound period, regardless of how many speakers, and apps you throw at it.

Why I also like head phones.

In the room, mentioned above, when the Dinosaur in Jurassic Park stomped the ground behind her, she pissed herself, jumped, and turned around to look for the Dinosaur all at once, so convincing was the audio.

PS: have a Yamamoto HA 2 headphones amp and Audio Technica W3000 headphones. Not the very best but very good.

PPS: not to mention the hysterical screams, that accompanied, the gymnastics.
