Two new live DStv channels launched on Showmax

Showmax has begun testing the live streaming of two channels which were previously only available on DStv.

The streaming service has launched two pop-up channels for KykNET and Mzansi Magic, allowing subscribers in South Africa to stream these channels live.

Is this the regular KykNet channel as found on Premium and the bouquet under Premium?

If so and it becomes a regular fixture of Showmax I see more pepole cancelling DStv.

“We’re always looking at ways of making the Mzanzi experience better for our customers,” said MultiChoice Group CEO for General Entertainment and Connected Video Yolisa Phahle.

“During last year’s lockdown, we gave subscribers access to Mzanzi .”

“Now, following this month’s Presidential address, South Africans will continue to spend more time on Mzanzi, and so, once again, we’d like to make sure our customers have some extra Mzanzi,” Phahle said.

Thats all I read . . . .

The only issue with Showmax live events (sport) now is that it displays events, has a start and end time. If the event is extended (FA Cup for instance), you lose out on that.

Available until 31 March - to see how popular it is etc.

What's the actual point if this, besides wasting money?

I may consider it, because my wife used to like the kykNET soapies when we still had DStv. Only problem is that showmax has disabled all their live channels when streaming via a pre-Tizan Samsung TV. The on-demand TV shows and movies play fine, but no live streaming. What were they thinking?

We have a great Series 8 TV that really does not need replacing, so kykNET will need to live without our subscription.

I believe it was Pop up channels rather than the regular channel you'd find on the DSTV rip off - i mean "premium" package.
