Can't think that Java Runtime would be included in anything Microsoft, so you probably need to get it.

Look, my motto is:
Use Firefox, and if there is a problem, use IE. I work in IT, and I run IE less than once a month, and I usually end up slitting my wrists anyway due to functionality that I need not being there. I have had to do basic tasks on IE pc's, and within 30 minutes I get so frustrated, then I get Firefox and I actually get my tasks done a lot quicker.

Using "" , + , - , helps in Google.
Safari is a decent browser these days, give it another try.

Dude, it's not Google ads I moan about, it's the search results which look like ads, "buy a nokia 6500 slide cheap cheap" etc. My wording is as correct as possible. I know by now the best method to get Nokia results is to look at Nokia's site itself, that's not the issue however, Google is marketing centered and the dog with the biggest bone gets ranked to the top, that's what I'm saying.

I'd be curious as to which search engine you plan on switching to. Yahoo takes 1 hour to load due to all the ads and the others provides rubbish results.

The latest, I'm running it on Vista and on 2 different pc's it does the same, starts to open a site which is a bit more complicated than usual and then it FAILS.

FF = FAIL

I have also had problems with FireFox on Vista, especially when there are flash components on the pages ... I posted another thread on it somewhere

Going to use Dogpile, I searched for 30 minutes yesterday looking for a specific Packard Bell laptop on google, I just found it under 3 minutes with Dogpile ;)

I find that I don't really see the ads in Google anymore. They are at worst one layer at the top, and it does stand apart, and the ones on the right don't even come to mind, because I know they are ads, so I am not going to click on them. I don't think I have ever clicked on one of those ads come to think of it. The only time I ever noticed the ads is when our company wanted to find out how they work.

So how about this: maybe there is a Firefox plug-in that removes all the google ads...It would give you a reason to use Firefox and Google:p

What ads in Google? The ones down the side?

Search results, plain search results that look that advertisements. Buy this buy that, it's not the first time it's happened.

Depends on what you're searching for I guess. I would imagine doing a search for "big boobs" or "cheapest ipod" would probably only return results. It comes down the the intelligence of the browser at the end of the day.

Vista...

Oh ja, I have used Vista for a bit as well...There is just one problem after another, so if anything does not work in Vista I just shake my fist at Microsoft. It usually works fine in XP. But me still reckons, the more competition, the better. If it was not for Firefox, the excuse of a browser called IE would be way worse than it is.

You can try tracking down a book called "Google Hacking". Although it does cover a fair bit of more devious stuff, it does include some very good material on haw to search with google.

Please. I don't see how I should use maximum skills just to conduct a basic search, Google needs a wake up.

I agree with what you're saying about too many 'shops' appearing in google results. Often when you search for a product, looking for the website or help or reviews, you instead get lots of ads and things.
