If you're acting in good faith then someone pointing out how your feelings are being used to support a counterproductive response will be something that you internalise.

ultimately, yes. but in the moment? probably not. it's like arriving at the death bed of someone's kid and saying "on the flip side, you've really dodged a bullet in terms of university fees." it's true, but timing. :)

that's the whole point though, isn't it?

here's Thoreau in On a Duty to Civil Disobedience. it's pretty much an anti-government tract for a lot of people. so much so that he starts with...

"I heartily accept the motto,—“That government is best which governs least;” and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe—“That government is best which governs not at all;” and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have."

but later within his whole long argument, he states:

"It is not a man’s duty, as a matter of course, to devote himself to the eradication of any, even the most enormous wrong; he may still properly have other concerns to engage him; but it is his duty, at least, to wash his hands of it, and, if he gives it no thought longer, not to give it practically his support. If I devote myself to other pursuits and contemplations, I must first see, at least, that I do not pursue them sitting upon another man’s shoulders. I must get off him first, that he may pursue his contemplations too."

it's the corollary position. for all that you don't want anything distorting real outcomes, you also have to check that you aren't already in a situation where that's happening, and it's just not happening to you.
Okay, but then let's talk brass tacks.

The single biggest influencing variable in terms of socio-economic outcome that we have to date found is IQ. The higher your IQ, the more likely you are to escape conviction, the more likely you are to avoid police interaction, the more likely you are to have a well paying job, etc. etc. etc.

Now, the 15 point average difference between the black and white populations in America, was that society's doing? The studies that report racial disparities between black and white people in terms of police interaction, do they attempt to control for variables like IQ? How do you propose we correct/account for this, exactly?

You aren't excused, rather provide details, facts, evidence, and not veiled threats.

If evidence proves me wrong, I'd gladly say I was wrong.
Sure, why not.

I'm a South African of a certain age who spent two years on the government dime back in the eighties.

An intake of 900 macho pants to SAMS in Potchefstroom, whittled down to 150 selected for specialist training and operational duty, whittled down again to six medics deployed with Koevoet... in a fscking war... then selected with another of the six to fly back to SA as an instructional corporal to train brand new macho pants special weapons.

I've taught eager macho pants to fire everything from their government issued R4s, through AKs, light machine guns and their heavy 7.62 and 50 cal mounted brothers, mortars, grenade launchers, RPGs and 89mm rocket launchers... safely, but with extreme prejudice.

Everything I taught had that magic 'full auto' selector y'all semi-auto bush fighters dream about.

How I choose to describe that AR is on me, and I don't give a single goddamn about your pedantry

Sit your ass down.

Are you a racist David?

Us wogs, coolies, ragheads, japs, chinks, abos,, curry munchers, pakis (the list goes on) tend to work out very quickly when someone is directing a slur when they use a country name as an adjective.

It's a gut thing...based on lived experience... y'know, as in you're on the receiving end in person...

(or maybe I was just brainwashed all those years ago under apartheid)
Nope.

You don't get to own this one David.

Calling it the China Virus is intended to cast a slur at China and play into the racist ideation of his right wing support.

It's racist and you don't get to say it isn't.
Are you White Rietie?

If yes, I understand why you don't get it. That's ok though, I won't judge you, it is what it is.

The virus has a name, Covid 19, use it; it has a place and country of origin (based on what we currently know), refer to it in that context ie 'Covid 19 originated in Wuhan, China'

Words matter, how you use them matter, they have meaning and when used carelessly, have real consequences.
This is one of the classic racist arguments.
No it's not racist to talk about China's concentration camps. The Chinese government is a vile and oppressive regime who are exterminating an ethnic minority (amongst other vile activities).

That DOESN'T give anyone the right to be racist towards China as a country.
Yes it is.
There are racists everywhere
The Chinese government are not good people.
That doesn't excuse racism towards China.

In a single afternoon, with no interaction at all, @AfricanTech managed to go from someone I was still willing to try to interact with, to be written off as a completely delusional SJW troll and losing all credibility.

The only racist here is you, the one who is projecting your racism to the point where you see racism everywhere and believe that everyone around you is a racist, even when race is not even a factor in the slightest.

This is disgusting behaviour, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Do your own research
I did my own research. I presented my findings. I showed the clear chain of logic behind my conclusion that the headline is accurate.

Grant was unable to tell me which part of my findings and logic were flawed, but still insists that the headline is wrong and that I posted an article with a misleading headline.

You don't get to say "you are lying", "the headline is wrong", and then "you must do your own research to figure out why". The burden of proving your claim is on you. If there was any truth to his claim, he would be able to provide evidence of that.

This is completely dishonest of all of you. Lying to try and "prove" that everything I post is a lie is slimy commie behaviour. It's not a surprise to see from the dishonest left, who love to say that everything they don't like is a lie, even when it's an indisputable fact.

You need professional help, maybe the PTSD has kicked in. Fact is you haven't provided evidence to substantiate your fully automatic comment.

Should I be impressed that you operated an LRAc F1 or FT5. So what if you did military service, most of us did it. I'm certainly not here to talk about my military services.
