Uber drivers allegedly attacking their customers in South Africa

There have been at least six cases of late-night attacks on unsuspecting Uber passengers attempting to get a ride home in Pretoria in the last month, the South African Police Service (Saps) has stated.

According to a Sunday Times report, Kayleigh Marx, aged 25, experienced such an incident while taking an Uber trip home from the Springbok game at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria three weeks ago.

Maybe she showed up as K. Marx on the app which confused the poor oke...

Attacking people as an Uber driver seems like one of the most short sighted/impulsive things someone could do. There is a clear evidence trail and timeline of the driver’s interactions with the passenger, so you can’t get away with it.

Will be interesting to find out if the Uber driver was black or white.

Maybe the driver was a monkey that stole the car and made ****? Who knows anymore in SA.

This happens when the tail wags the dog. Uber has let their standards go, in leu of profit and being too complaint with driver demands.
What?

It is time we get another e-hailing company in South Africa. The amount of times driver are 1 block away but rejecting my request since R80 for the trip is not enough for them defeats the purpose of Uber as a company and being unable to provide a service to their customers. Had the same issue this weekend, and finally had to opt in for Uber black which was happy to charge R200 for the same trip. Not sure if Uber or Bolt is worth it any longer...never mind attacking customers which is not on.

Never used it but InDriver exists.

Those are career limiting statements. One has to be careful what one says about another one.

There is a simple solution to this. Uber just shouldn’t make the trip amount visible to the driver until the trip has actually started.

This is actually how it worked previously.

Yeah we should take example from citizen news. Start with the race of the criminal.

Just ban Uber and all other ehailing services, this includes ubereats scooter drivers too. The world was a better place without these guys.

Can totally agree on car quality wow they crap.

When I was in Cape Town Uber was all fine

Second I got to JHB had to order a BLACK from ORT and wow the car was a heap of crap.

Rather pay a friend to drive me home before I use them this side again.

Sure they use to require dekra reports yearly

But also speaking to some staff most of the guys have fake driver licenses and work permits from another country that way Uber can’t validate them especially Mozambique or Malawi. checkers 60 guys and PNP Asap are all about this.
