Uber Eats is hurting restaurants in South Africa, say owners

Their service is still better than Mr D in my experience...so much depends on the delivery guy you get assigned...some are good, some are ok but some are atrocious

Wow I didn't realise that Uber Eats charges 30%. That's a lot!

I wonder how much Mr D Food charges. Orderin is completely dead in our area.

Nobody is forcing these restaurants to use UberEats. If they don't like the price then they're free to use somebody else.

Do not use Mr. D or Uber Eats. Never will. I do not like their business model.

To be honest, I would rather get the order myself. But as we so seldom do takeaways, I enjoy the novelty of ordering and receiving the meal hot ... instead of artificially hot.

uber eats and mr d are almost the same. mr, d forces customers to pay tips, but not uber eats.

the menu prices are about 10% to 30% more than the normal menu prices.

worth it or not? you decide ;)

Mr D doesn’t force you to tip. Yes it automatically adds 10% tip but you can turn it down to Zero.

Whatever happened to Orderin? Had several terrible experiences with them (restaurant didn't accept order, but they just didn't do anything about it... just ended up waiting and waiting).

Mr D and Uber Eats are pretty much equal to me. They must lose a fortune with all the promos (think we've never paid a delivery fee with either. Yes, they take 30% but they must give a large part to the driver?
I still try to use the restaurant directly if possible, but it is a lot of work. Restaurants who are moaning just need to get off their asses and either:
A. Give a good, simple chat-bot whatsapp alternative (Butlers Pizza in Cape Town has a good one of these https://www.butlers.co.za/ )
B. Use a 'roll your own service' like Oishi sushi (https://www.oishi.co.za/) do - think it's https://orderlord.com/ ? I be there are others

These owners complaining need to stop being moaners and start being business people. If you don't like your suppliers then either find another, or if they are all bad, start your own. It's not rocket science!

They are taking the end user's money and brokering a deal with the restaurant, then not paying the restaurant. As a client, I'd want to know that my money is getting to the establishment I am supporting. Uber eats can take a hike. Not sure about you, but the thought of an American company taking money from South African restaurants irks me.
