Uber to launch cash payment option in South Africa

That's just silly.

A cashless system is a far better idea.

Security aspect aside, I feel that the drivers will be expecting Tips, if you dont tip, bad rating. If you choose cashless you will get worse treatment because you won't be giving a tip, or as mentioned the begging aspect will come into it. "You know this job doesnt pay well, im having a bad month, please anything".

I hope i am proved wrong and they go beyond the normal so that they are deserving of tips.

This worries me as well. Tipping is supposed to be a "thank you for exceptional service", but it has become too commonplace that people just expect it. This is opening the gates for Uber to lower the commission on rides with the excuse of "oh, you get tips now". I like how it works now where as soon as I arrive at my destination the transaction between me and the driver is completed and we go on our merry way. Now there is going to be this awkward moment when getting out of the car where he is expecting more money, and I am not going to give it to him.

Imagine making over R1500 for the day and being hijacked/held up by a passenger. Only reason they bringing this cause taxiftaxifyy already accepts cash and have a call centre . One day Uber will have a call centre up running as well to request a taxi
