so i was installing ubuntu, it got to the "copying files", the bar must have been around 25% and the power tripped.

now when i start it i get this:

GNU GRUB version 0.97 (639K lower / 2030272K upper memory)

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename.]

grub> _

it goes to that screen on start up, no BIOS screen.

any ideas how to fix it?

redo the install process and complete it. grub will be reinstalled and other OSes will be picked up

Press F2 or DEL (others use F10) when booting up - you should get the BIOS screen

change the boot sequence from HDD to CD-Rom.

Some BIOS'es offer a boot menu (usually accessed by F9, F11, F12, F2 - this depends on the BIOS manufacturer) from where you can select the boot device without having to fiddle and diddle in the BIOS.

And do not just press the reset button, power off your PC completely and then power it on again.

Press the necessary key to enter BIOS and use "boot from CD". Now everything should be fine again.

I have to admit, that is a bit odd, as I've never seen a pc do that, even when installing an os cut short by a power cut. That is some weirdness there.
