Ubuntu on my Netbook - MAYBE

I have one of the Gigabyte Q1088.
I was keen to load Ubuntu 10 beta netbook on it.
I booted off the live CD no wireless.
Anyone know if the wireless will work and more imp my Vodacom 3g for travel is a must.

Wireless worked straight off on my Samsung NC10 with Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10. For 3g, it depends on the modem, some will work straight off. For others, do a search for Betavine on this subforum.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Acer One Netbook. Everything worked perfectly, just had some issues getting my Vodacom 3G modem to work. Nothing too serious though.

I cannot see what wireless device it uses, but the WIFI support has really improved with 9.10. Since I've moved onto better hunting ground with Arch, I cannot comment much but do check out the official Ubuntu Wiki on Netbook installs.

Got my 3G card working on Linux yesterday using VMC. Can't say the process was that much more complicated than windows.

Oh, the only issue I have with Gnome is the network-manager and WiFi - would cause the office router to drop everyone's connections. I replaced it with WICD when I was still running Ubuntu on my netbook and no more problems.

WICD has no 3G support but you can use VMC for that.

You can, thats what I did although then it just becomes dead standard Karmic 9.10.

I think that whole netbook user interface is a load of rubbish, it destroys one's normal workflow.

Do your wifi lights work? I've got Ubuntu 9.10 on my Acer One, and while it does connect the lights (and the switch) don't seem to work.

Then consider cruncbang. I'm hearing rave reports on it. On my netbook I switched to LXDE (using Arch Linux) and its so much more usuable than UNR.

But on two netbooks I installed UNR for some noobs last year, they are still very happy it. Personal preference.
