UIF Claims

Hi All,

I have been unemployed since end of Feb this year. I have submitted a UIF claim on 12 April 2016 and they told me that the claim will be processed within the next 7 weeks (which was by latest 31 May 2016). Today is exactly 12 weeks after that date, and the best answer they can come up with is that it's not yet processed and they can't tell me when it will be processed because they don't know. I have gone back 9 times already and by now I'm really fed up, because it costs money (which I dont have) to drive up and down, just to be told that the claim isn't processed yet, I must come back in a week's time! This has been their tune for the past 12 weeks. If it weren't for the fact that I really need that money to keep ABSA from repo-ing my car and paying back money I borrowed from family to survive financially, I'd have shoved that claim up their arses a long time ago. Is there some way I can sue them (because I really don't want to go all ISIS and bomb the offices or kill people, although I think that's the only language they will understand..) or force them to get it processed before end of August 2016?

Any advice appreciated.

As far as I know there is absolutely nothing legal you can do to expedite the process. You simple have to take it and wait. Very very sad I know. You cannot even ask to speak to a manager as they care less than the regular staff.

Well, I just got a call from ABSA, they're taking my car on Friday, unless I can reduce my outstanding debt to 1 instalment... I swear, if today UIF gives me a sh*t reason as to why my claim hasn't been processed, you're gonna read about a mass killing in the papers next week!

Tried registering for ufiling just now, but it says I am already registered. There's no "fotgot your username" option...

Should have read the Sunday Times this past Sunday. Big front pager re. UIF. People waiting for a year for their money. We went through an agency to claim on my wife's behalf during her maternity leave. That went pretty quick and was relatively painless.

I was in the same situation. Contributed to UIF for close to 20 years without making a claim previously. Was unemployed from June 2015 to Nov 2015.

I went to the UIF office in Pinetown about 10 times during this period and each time I was told something else. Forms were mislaid and I had to resubmit. I eventually only received one payment of R 2 300.00 at end of Oct.

Did you try to register and claim online via ufiling?

Thats the one , then every time they reject the claim you appeal on line and get paid .
Takes about 10 days after the initial 6 weeks waiting period .

Is the process still sit in the queues or can one apply online these days? Retrenched and finish up end July. Will be wanting to submit a claim in August.
