It's basically like the opposite of here, if we suddenly had extreme cold weather (snow/ice) in SA then the country would come to a standstill as most of our infrastructure isn't designed with this in mind.

Definte extreme cold weather though..

Anything below 20 and I'm fscked off about life..
Below 10 and I'm unwilling to be a human being.

When you walk outside and the grass crunches underfoot because the blades have frozen.

Humidity there is so low that it is hardly worth mentioning.
You just sweat a drop and it basically evaporates immediately.

Not that I see London is much worse at the moment

But should the humidity pick up, a Kuwaiti wouldn't exactly call London comfortable.

Weird. Londonistan can be freaking humid. 17% for this time of year seems really low.

Physics says the opposite ;)
More air movement = more evaporation, especially with "dry air" (aka low humidity).

In Pretoria where I grew up this was standard in the summer.
Tar would get all melty and get stuck to your shoes.
Except we didn't make a big deal out of it
Shoes ? We had to walk barefoot on the hot tar.

Oh hell no... I don't walk outside in that sort of weather, are you bloody mental?
Or, you could go by the tales a friend of mine from Canada told me:

Don't blink and breathe out at the same time while walking. Your breath will condense on your eyelashes and freeze instantly, and you can't open your eyes...

Had a similar(ish) tale from a friend in Canada when they just moved there.

Figured he'd walk to the grocery store that was 100m or so from their place and get some fruit and veg for the weekend... from the store to his place, the stuff had frozen in the packet.

Shoes? Were you not barefoot.

As well as the major fire in Wennington, there are also a number of other blazes today elsewhere in the capital:

• Thirty fire engines are dealing with a grass fire on Pea Lane in Upminster
• Twelve fire engines are tackling a fire involving garden fencing and trees on Uxbridge Road in Pinner
• Ten fire engines are attending a restaurant fire on Green Lanes in Southgate
• Eight fire engines are tackling a grass fire on Oaks Road in Croydon
• Eight fire engines are dealing with a grass fire on Ballards Road in Dagenham
• Eight fire engines are attending a fire on The Broadway in Wembley
• Six fire engines are tackling a grass fire on Sunningfields Crescent in Hendon
• Four fire engines are dealing with a grass fire on Chapel View in Croydon
• Four fire engines attending a fire on Sidcup Road in Eltham.

Mr Khan tweeted: "London Fire Brigade has just declared a major incident in response to a huge surge in fires across the capital today. This is critical: London Fire Brigade is under immense pressure.
