If you open an upstairs and a downstairs window, don't you get the hot air rushing out the upstairs one and the cold air creeping up the stairs?
Unfortunately not. Bedroom window is ridiculously small, needs changing and the staircase is a closed in one so poor airflow. I'm gonna get aircon and be done with it hey

How idiotic .... to say that extreme weather warnings is like covid and the government controlling the populace. It did hit those temps, people did die, roads warped, rail lines buckled, fires everywhere but hey, let's break out our tinfoil and pretend it's another form of control, grrrr @ government. Christ people are thick

Temperatures without humidity are useless.

40c can be deadly or a walk in the park depending on the humidity.

I went to South India in the summer, 42C 100% humidity, the air feels so thick and heavy you almost feel like you can swim through it.

The only time I felt like I was going to pass out was on a bus passing past a horrific smelling river.

Science doesn't agree. :)
There is a range of opinion and results regarding the temperature and relative humidity at which it can become a problem.

I'm not sure about their convection oven analogy though. Isn't the point of convection in an oven to spread the heat evenly within or force heat into the interior of an insulated enclosure? Instead from what I can find the problem with using a fan in very dry hot conditions may be that the fan accelerates sweat evaporation without enhancing cooling. Overall though what this study and others have found is that fans are beneficial until you're facing temperatures of close to 50 degrees and relative humidity below 10%.

would be funny if old colonies are called on to take environmental refugees.... as the Northern Hemisphere becomes the new Hades...

Except for the fact that the entire planet is heating up, so the old colonies in the southern hemisphere will also be heating up by a similar amount in their summers, making them even hotter.

The least affected places will be on the coast adjacent to cold ocean currents, due to the large thermal inertia of the sea. The largest effects will be continental climates in far northern latitudes, such as Siberia.

The Western Cape says hello...
