I'm going to the UK for 4 days & would like to purchase a prepaid SIM to be able to access data on my phone.

I'm wondering if anyone could point me at a good deal there.

My requirements are:
1.) Must be easy to get hold of (Arriving on sunday 9th, so not sure how many businesses are open)
2.) Data (Internet access) must be cheap.
3.) Call costs are irrelevant ... don't plan on phoning anyone.

I'll be using this for Google Maps so that I can find my way around.

I looked at the Virgin Mobile site & saw they're charging .5p per kb ... rather steep, I thought, especially compared with here.

Any help? :)

Check out this site for the list of available pre-paid sim packages and data rates in the UK http://www.britishsims.com/. You will probably be able to pick up the same at a Carphone Warehouse at a lesser price listed there though.

The carphone warehouse site is here but they don't have data details for the sims on offer. According to their site their Oxford Street store is open from 11:00 till 18:00 on Sundays.

There are also lots of internet cafes and wireless hot-spots in London, though I am not sure what is required to make use of the hot-spots. Google should help you there...

PS, If you are going to be doing quite a bit of surfing, the 3G sim is probably your best bet at GBP2.50 per week unlimited surfing, however, when I left the UK two and a half years ago their network coverage wasn't brilliant. It is probably better now, but I can't give you any guarantees. Otherwise I would go with the Vodafone or O2 prepaid sim they are both less than half the price of Virgin for data and their coverage is excellent.
