U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss ended England's ban on fracking Thursday, opening the door to domestic shale gas production amid a European energy crisis.

The return of fracking is just one piece of a larger energy and economy plan Truss is pursuing in her first weeks since gaining office. Her administration also announced a national freeze on household energy prices, a plan that will cost the government tens of billions.

Under Truss's plan, household energy costs will be limited to $2,900 per year after ballooning to $4,100 in 2022.

The U.K. and other European countries have faced a worsening energy crisis due to heavy dependence on oil and gas imports from Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin limited exports to Europe after NATO countries imposed severe economic sanctions on the county for its invasion of Ukraine.

Just go back to coal-powered energy and get it over and done with. Ban green instead, the cause of all your problems.

Excellent stuff.

Look at the USA which is far more energy independent than Europe right. They do have their environmental loonies but everyone pisses on them in energy production states Texas, which is where it really matters

While I'm pleased that the ban on fracking is lifted, I'm at the same time dismayed and even horrified that such a ban can be imposed or lifted by PM fiat. Just as bad is the long-standing, ongoing, and worsening government distortion of the market pricing mechanism, also in energy.

I'm increasingly doubtful that there are enough sane Brits left to spot the iceberg before it's too late.

I think most spot it. They just believe themselves trapped in basically a one party system of either labour or the "conservative" torries who is trying to out flank labour from the left.

Spoting the problem is easy. Everyone can see the problem. What to do is the question.

Lol she comes from an oil and gas background. However that isn't mutually exclusive with nuclear. You can have it all.

No. Covering the landscape in soot is not what the UK needs.

Fracking is a perfectly decent alternative till the loonies get the message that nuclear power is the only way forward.

Nuclear might be the way forward but there's more money in oil still so the lobby groups are pushing that and it seems their puppet is obliging them in double time.

There actually would be more money in nuclear as you can undercut natural gas on price.

I wonder if any of those evil oil selling people thought of investing in nuclear as well.

Nuclear is too regulated for them so they prefer oil. They'll go nuclear if that goes more mainstream, why start a new venture when there's a current cash cow you can keep milking with willing politicians for sale.

Good. Time for sanity to prevail instead of throwing your lot in with angry Gretha.

Bowing to oil barons is bad as throwing in with Greta. We need a solution somewhere in the middle, oil extraction is a messy process with real possibility for destroying ecosystems.

Agreed. The middle wasn't an acceptable option when the woke-green solution was adopted.

Them evil oil people do invest in renewables.

And nuclear

Evil everywhere.
Did I say they don't? I only said why nuclear isn't an inviting prospect for them. Renewables are where the money is going as investors shed fossil fuels so if they are to remain relevant and please shareholders then they'll invest in the next money spinner.
