[UK] Sunak to announce an election for July, Sky News understands

LOL, Labour already going back on previous statements.

26 May 2024 = Labour has said there will be no rises in income tax or National Insurance if it wins the general election - but some spending cuts have not been ruled out.

30 July 2024 = The chancellor has said the government will likely raise some taxes in October's Budget after months of speculation about Labour's stance on tax.

Understandable when the tories had concealed how big the gaps in their spending plans were...

Unless you choose to open your eyes.

In all fairness I didn't read the articles. Lets see if they stick to this.

Labour said repeatedly during the election campaign there would be no tax rises on "working people", but the Conservatives had insisted Labour would increase them.

Ms Reeves reiterrated that the government would not raise VAT, national insurance or income tax, as promised in Labour's manifesto, but she did not rule out increasing inheritance tax, capital gains tax or pension reform.

The statements you’ve quoted don’t show any u-turn of their election promise.

There are plenty of other taxes that can be raised.

I know, as stated I didn't read the articles. Saw the headlines and though "WTF!!" :whistling:

I think they were saying other taxes would likely need to rise even before the election.

As long as they don’t try a new version of the old Tory austerity plans (which seemed to only apply to lower end wage earners while giving all sorts of favours to the rich).

Hope so, I need as much extra money I can get my hands on to push into retirement investments.

Promised in the manifesto that they wouldn’t touch income tax, NI or VAT. That leaves capital gains, inheritance and pensions. Not sure they’re going to be able to pull that off.

UK is fighting, burning, mobs running around with swords and knives, cars being destroyed, staff can't leave hospitals in fear, random people being beaten up. And this is one month into Starmer's watch, and all he keeps doing is having press conferences blaming the "far right".

What a clown! 🤣

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere. Too funny!

"Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it."
