Yeah, but don't you need to pay a visa application fee now? with compliments of home affairs.
Good news for PE - they're opening up a British visa application centre at Moffett on Main - hopefully sometime in May.![]()
They dont but there are plenty of non-Americans living in PE (including my missus).bwana, since when do U.S citizens need a visa for the UK?![]()

EDIT - Speaking of spouses you'd think they would be willing to make an exception to this visa requirement as long as the spouse was travelling with a UK citizen - fortunately my kids have the right papers so they are exempt but . . - these visas arent cheap, especially for a multiple entry one.![]()
Both. Can't remember, you on a UK or US passport? Or you got both?![]()
She would get right of abode if we were going to live there but we're just going for a visit . . . and yeah they probably would turn her away even assuming that the airline let her fly there without a visa.I don't know, does the UK not have a fiancee visa? I would just risk it, they wont turn her away if you and the kids all got papers, she should automatically get right of abode.
They say there is an extension until mid year - we're going in August and they cant say for sure if "mid year" extends that far. From what I'd heard on the radio, they say if you've been to the UK with a SA passport before, you won't be subject to visa control. Not sure if your wife has been or not.
They'll check. Some places even hold the airline responsible for carrying people without the proper visa.I really have my doubts about whether the airline would check on your visa requirement prior to departure though?
My kids have to have one - they were born here so they need it to leave and enter SA.Is there any real advantage to owning a SA passport? I've been here more than long enough to get one, but never saw the point.
I figured them having the US one would save on visa fees and my dad wants to open a college trust fund back home and that requires a SSN.I haven't even done my US citizenship and I've been there forever...
Yep - you all in PE's northern suburbs lucked out too.Either way, this is real good news for everyone as far as Bloem who otherwise had to drive to CT. Also not bad for us EL folk
Nice one!

Apart from schlepping the kids and the missus down to cape town I had to get a ton of documentation including proof that I had spent at least 5 years in the US - three of which had to be after the age of 18 (or it could have been 14) That part was easy enough (college) but the earlier years proved to be a bit more difficult and involved family going to my old elementary school and having them root through the attic.Yeah, well get 'em the British one as well. Both passports are strong. They'll thank you for it some day.
What did you struggle with doing the US passports for them?

It took less than a week from the time I submitted the last of the paperwork until DHL was knocking on the door with two passports.Admin's a ball ache, you'd think your kids could get your nationality without you having to prepare a thesis.
Anyway, at least you got it sorted.![]()
