Ultr@VNC

Hi i wonder if someone can help. I have Ultr@VNC Viewer installed on one of my computers at home and Ultr@VNC Server at my office. I need to connect to my office, i type in the ip adress 196.145.xxx.xxx but Ultr@VNC Viewer does not connect. My works pc's lan addy is 192.168.0.3 It works perfectly on the works lan and my home lan if i install the server on one and the viewer on another computer (on the same lan). But i am unable to connect the 2 lan's via the internet. What am i doing wrong?

You need do port forwarding on your work's router.

Go to www.portforward.com and look for UltraVNC for instructions for your router.

And if you run into problems, come back here.

You can also try www.hamachi.cc for a peer-to-peer VPN and I noticed that not only is it easier, but also very responsive.

Dont have a router , both is adsl usb modems (work and home)

Or really give hamachi a try - more secure anyway.

I presume the 196.x.x.x is your server address. Is this a static address? I would setup a cheap linux machine that will handle the firewall and port forwarding. You can also install VPN it is also more secure and does not expose your "server" to the world. Connect then to the VPN server and then hop from there to your 192.x.x.x address either through VNC or remote desktop.

The problem with all this is that there are so many bits in the equasion. Hamachi traverses most firewalls and routers and gives you a simple seamless end to end connection with 256k encryption (no need to use any additional plugins for security). It is easy to set up and FREE.

After setting up Hamachi on each PC, you can then use any application as if you were on the same LAN. Ultr@VNC, windows file sharing, etc. etc. Each PC gets it's unique Hamachi IP address.

Be warned!

Opening a VNC port to the Internet is asking for BIG troubles, especially if you use weak passwords and piss-poor security.

Should a VNC server be hacked, then the hacker will have full control over your network...

Thats why Hamachi is so great. No open ports... works with NAT... with 256k encryption.

Hamachi works very well - I use it to gain access to my pc through our corporate firewall.
