Hi All,

I've got a problem with 6 computers that cannot browse the internet through a Telkom POTS modem.

The POTS modem has been setup to do the connectivity etc. and the computers with have been setup with static IP's and default gateway set to the modems IP address which is the standard 192.168.10.200

This setup has been working in the past, but suddenly last week Thursday, not working anymore.

From a computer I can ping a website eg. www.iafrica.com and receive a reply but, if I try to browse through internet explorer, i get page cannot be displayed error.

The Pots modem has been tested on another line and works fine on those computers but put it back on the 6 x computer network same problem. Telkom has even check as says line fine.

Anybody seen something like this or have any ideas to try?
Could this perhaps be a virus, I kind of doubt, but open to comments.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply IC, but what kind of results am I looking for ? What will tell me if something is wrong?

Okay, worked this out to one PC by removing all network cables from the switch except the POTS Modem. Plugged in one at a time till internet was not available. Plug all in except suspected PC, all other PC's working fine now.

Must just check whether NIC Driver, NIC hardware, Network Cable or virus problem on suspected PC.

Will post final result.

Thanks :)

Thought I'd just update this thread with what I found.

The suspect computer had a file called msn.exe in c:\windows\system32 that was being loaded at startup that was causing the problem. Once removed internet browsing was back to normal.

Cheers
