unable to connect in redhat 9

I'm running redhat 9 on an old PII 400 with 64MB ram. I installed the linux drivers for USB support that came on the CD I got from my ISP. Everything seemed to have installed properly, and it detects the iBurst terminal when I plug it in. I successfully ran through adsl-setup, but when i ifup ppp0, it just sat there, doing nothing, eventually failing because of a timeout...

I played around with a few settings, but always the same result. It defaulted to an MTU of 1500, so I lowered thise to a couple of different settings, none of which worked.

Has anyone successfully installed this in redhat 9 using USB support????

I have just tried using the ethernet port, and I got the same error, so it's not the USB driver

Has anyone had problems not being able to connect?

I haven't even tried to use the USB drivers for linux!
I have only ever used on Ethernet.

I have a similar problem on Mandrake sometimes.
I have to remove the ADSL connection completely, then re add it. That sometimes helps.
Connect you iBurst up to a Windows Box, and check you can connect. I.E You can blame iBurst if windows can't connect.

You can also try Roaring Penguin http://www.roaringpenguin.com/penguin/open_source_rp-pppoe.php

It's an alternative PPPoE "Dialer" for Linux.

It is using the roaring penguin dialer according to the info at the top of the adsl-setup adsl-start.... etc. scripts

Oh, and it works perfectly under Windows XP

use a later version of redhat - they have fixed all these little errors

I reccommend fedora core 4. it'll run fine on your box.

you're right that is a silly one, not because you asked him to check the MTU but because you asked him to check the MTU before he can even connect, so it woulkdn't even come into play yet
