Unbelievable fantastic service: Telkom!!!

Yep, you read it correct. I am moving to a new house in another part of JHB North. I'm moving in a months time and decided on Wednesday to apply for my lines & transfer services because as we all know it can take a bloody long time to sort all that cr@p out. I have at this moment an 4mb ADSL line and a seperate ISDN2a line at my current adress so yes I expected some cr@p. To cut a long story short, yesterday afternoon I got a call from the owner of the home (at about 2pm) I'm moving to, to tell me that Telkom crew is at the house and can I please come out and tell the guys what I want. I got there at about 3pm and believe it or not there were three Techy's with two bakkies waiting. So I showed them what I want, explained my setup to them and they immediately started working. There was no if, buts, maybe's tommorrows etc. They've installed everything and tested and left by around 5pm. It was all quite unreal. The only thing that I can think is that I've been on their books for about ten years, running a business at home and I have been a real @ss in the past with complaints up to the highest level.

I did however ask them how come they're so speedy. They told me a lot of it has to do with the training they're all getting (courses and all). I asked if they are worried about Neotel. They said they all (and many of their budies are submitting CV's and hoping to switch). They also let drop that there's currently about 280 open posts in Telkom for cable jointers and Techy's and that they work just about every weekend.

So it seems that either Telkom is "really" tryin to get their act together or they are aware that I have been a major pain in the @ss in the past. That or they know I run a small business from home and give business clients faster service.

My ADSL self install also took 6 days from order, Telkom phoned the day fatre order, e-mailed the process to set up, and told me to connect my router (Billion). 5 days later, ADSL lights were on! The phone line is another story, new townhouse in 4ways, took only 6 months...

Ha, I can go one better - applied for a 1024 aDSL line on a Monday morning and had it installed and operational by noon the next day! I guess sometimes miracles do happen.

You lucky! I moved from one house to the next in the same suburb, just one street away. When I phoned to arrange my line be moved, they told me I can't do that, I have to cancel the current one and re-apply, because the new house is on a different exchange. Long story short, three months later I'm still waiting...

@BTech: Just wondering why you never did a self installation?

Had to have two physical lines installed in my new place and I don't live there yet. I made arrangements a month in advance so as to minnimize downtime. Didn't expect Telkom to be that fast....from prior bad experiances:D

I think my problem is that my order is not just ADSL, I also need a phone number. i.e. There is a deactivated phone line already in the place. This means my order spans the ADSL and 'New Number' departments.

Overall, I should have ordered long time ago instead of waiting 3 months for IBurst to finally tell me that there will be no usable signal in my area any time soon.
