Uncapped fixed-5G price battle — up to 500Mbps for R449

South African mobile network operators invest a lot in their 5G networks to provide customers with reliable connectivity and expand coverage, and uncapped fixed-5G packages are available for as little as R449 per month.

MTN, Rain, and Telkom have expanded their 5G coverage to the point where they can offer the technology in most of the country's major metros.

But rain suddenly stopped 5G roll out which was disappointing especially for small towns in northern provinces

Sheesh, first a fibre war then a share trading war and now a 5G battle. It's starting to look like a wasteland out there.

I have the MTN Home Premium 5G 35Mbps. Not bad at all.

How is it considered 5G with speeds like 30Mbps to 100Mbps? Those don't even sound like LTE-A speeds.

I asked this before signing up. The manager of the store said. Only a few few actually gets the max speed and the rest will get the lower speeds. There is only a certain number of signups available for each speed bracket to avoid congestion of the tower.

These Home 5G packages from MTN work on a different band compared to normal 5G (which is much faster)

Also after 24 hours on it being on, it’s hard locked to the tower.

It's not true 5G. It uses LTE for the uplink to increase the tower footprint. True 5G is nano cell so think in terms of 10-100m range.

I can vouch for the rain offering the service is consistent having used it for 3 months now connected to my old router for 700gbs streaming mostly but you must be in a covered area I set the router to not go into 4g which saved me because the coverage is bad in my area but the 5g is so good I can't even believe it.
