United Nations calls for smartphones to be banned in schools

Unesco, the UN's education, science, and culture agency, wants smartphones to be banned in schools to improve learning, reduce disruptions, and protect learners from cyberbullying.

In its report, the agency said evidence shows that excessive smartphone use among learners was linked to poor educational performance and impacted their emotional stability.

Problem solved.

Of course they wanna ban phones. Then it would be easier for their UN pedo buddies to traffic kids elsewhere.

God's children are not for sale.

I am on the fence.
Technology that supports learning and is the new way etc should not be banned.
Kids taking videos of each other to make fun and post online etc is definitely not on. We could argue "kids have always been mean" but that pales in comparison to what cyber bullying does these days.

I bought my kids phones not as a fashion statement, but to get hold of them and them of me at all times in case of a life and death situation, irrespective of location.

I'm responsible for both my kids' safety and their education. If I had the choice, I'd rather not have them turn out like @Pineapple Smurf or @The_Mowgs

Unesco can kindly go abort thenselves, late term

We have no problem with dumbed down ciriculums, or unhealthy food, but phones...fck no...that's where we draw the line.

And at least they can record how they stab each other , set fire etc with their phones.

There seems to be increasing evidence that for children / teenagers, smartphones and social media (the two are often effectively synonymous) are harmful to their mental health and development.

My kids aren't even in primary school yet but it's an issue I'm concerned about.

I don't wanna see your daughters in the school bathrooms thank you

Phones are already banned at our kids school. You can carry it but it must be off once you enter school.
They were open to comment prior to making the change and had a positive response to it.
Not even an issue for me personally.
