Unions threaten to take SABC to court over planned job cuts

Unions representing SABC workers have threatened to take legal action or go on strike should the public broadcaster proceed with proposed job cuts that will affect 600 employees.

This follows the broadcaster sending employees a letter in which it said it has concluded a Section 189 consultation process regarding retrenchments.

The SABC claimed this process had been completed according to the prescripts of the Labour Relations Act (LRA), which requires only four consultation sessions in 60 days.

Do the unions want to start funding the SABC, end of problem?

They want a favorable solution, but do not want to contribute anything to achieve it.

Who cares, they are valueless any how, and will not be missed here. Jobs for Boetie and Ou Sus. Time for them to move on to the next scam job.

Let them win, the sooner they suck the life blood out of the SABC the better for us all..

Nope, they must continue reducing the number of parasites, till it becomes profitable, or there is nothing to get rid of, at the SABC.

The unions have no leg to stand on, its just them making noise to try and justify their inflated income.
I had an interesting chat to someone on a plane a few months ago and they were quite high up in a union. The guy was telling me that they have so much money they dont know how to spend it all.
Seems those member contributions add up quickly.

Cool, we, the taxpayers, should then sue the unions one by one for systematically interfering with business. They are the scourge of our country.

This is the problem that unions fail to understand .. its some of them .. or all of them .. when we fight the company trying to retrench to remain profitable, ultimately the company becomes unprofitable, and sinks.
Unions need to change their position from saving the 600 jobs being made redundant, to saving the livelihood of the workers left behind.

As was mentioned previously .. either the unions sponser the budget required to keep 600 people employed, or they shut up, as they are doing very little to save this country from a death spiral.

No blood left, only embalming fluid.

No stress, charging you a license fee for Netflix etc will solve the problem.
The ANC has created a tsunami of employment disaster by massively over bloating SOE's and then falling short at being able to do anything about it because they pander to the Unions who seemingly have zero to offer in terms of resolution.

Ex cit. Really, Unions can now sue SOE's? WHAHAHA. And let me guess, the SA courts are going to side with the unions. I really wonder sometimes how isolated SA really is. All over the world, TV stations, the media has let 1000's of people go, due to the ever changing market. But it seems in SA it's not the case. No wonder everything is t*** up.
