Damning allegations made against the university's principal and vice-chancellor, Puleng Lenkabula, include racking up a R2 million bill for renovations at the Cloghereen residence.
Nokukhanya Mntambo | about 5 hours ago

JOHANNESBURG - Vice-Chancellor at Unisa, Puleng Lenkabula, has denied using university fees to buy a fridge and bed at a combined cost of more than R500,000.
Lenkabula came under fire last year over the cost of renovations at her official residence.
She faces a slew of allegations, including irregular expenditure and maladministration.
Unisa has had to avert bad publicity for several months now, with several reports of irregular expenditure and appointments.

And then the next headline on EWN....

The Auditor-General said "material irregularities" brought to the attention of authorities stood at an estimated financial loss of R8.6 billion since 2017.

Lol...what kind of kak bed and fridge do you get for R500k? Is it one of those horrible double door ones with a water cooler and a LED display? Its disgraceful how the poor are expected to live here...

I'd put good money on the R400k fridge is either one of those retro SMEG type things, or a big double door SubZero type things.

Ah yes, the old "But I was the one who enforced the regulations therefore I cannot be guilty" line. Next comes the appeal to innocence by using legal threats against everyone and their distant relatives like Busisiwe Mkhwebane employed. After that it's resorting to acting completely dumb and clueless and hoping it all just goes away. Standard cut n paste tactics. Every time.
Looks like you believe she is guilty? Because the accusations sounds very dodgy for someone of her stature, the first thing that came to mind was that someone is out to get her and they are throwing everything hoping something sticks.

Anyway there is an investigation underway, let's see what they find but I will give her the benefit of doubt, especially on this particular allegation, it sounds like a fabrication.

Unless it is one of these beds, I call BS on this allegation.

I think he may have spent the R500k on booze and other s**t.

On the other hand, it is hard work having to sit all day and issue free degrees. Perhaps the bed and fridge is well-earned......

It sounds rather extraordinary all of this. It wouldn't be the first time someone with access to government funds has basically said: "**** the system I'm doing this".

Let me tell you something after this whole Jacob Zuma debacle, I'm going to go with anything is possible.

Let's wait and see.
She is not a politician for a start, she is an academic, that to me means I cannot be applying Zuma standards in this case.

Of course I am not saying it's impossible that she could have done all that, hopefully the investigation will reveal the facts.

Ai. Let's see what happens with the investigation. Hope it's not true, and if it is they should rather have spent that money on improving the new myUNISA system.
