Time for another TP-LINK competition? :whistling:

I'm still very happy with the TD-W8960N that I won last time!

Looks awesome. Wish it had ADSL modem built in.

+1.

As tempting as this device is the thought of adding yet another piece of electronic equipment to the already large pile is too much to bear.

Watch this space, there are some pretty decent TP-Link ADSL routers on their way to S.A.

I agree about the competitions, it's been a while since we've done one, I'll see what I can do to get some competitions and maybe even some auctions going this week.

Give us your suggestions on what you guys are after ;)

That reverse auction was a hoot!! Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of those 8968's up for grabs!! Looks a decent piece of kit. All that's missing is 5ghz...

How were the auctions run in the past - can't recall

Reverse auction. So you start at recommended retail and work backwards. Forumites bid against each other. There were I think 5 units available. When a forumite included the word buy with their bid that's the final selling price. The next 4 forumites after that get the device at that price.

I got a router for around R170 I think it was. Bloody awesome. If you online, refreshing and bidding with 5 available you can't miss.

Excuse my ignorance about routers. So with the USB slots, I can basically connect an external USB drive to that router, and it will be shared to anybody on the network? Simple as that or is there something i am missing?

@Ecco, nope that's pretty much it. There's a settings page for it but basically you plug it in and you can give it a name and set permissions.

On top of just sharing the drive you can also run a DLNA server sharing the stuff on the drive so if you have network connected TV's or even just windows media player you can play the media off the drive.

Very cool.

I do want to setup the DLNA sever - i have a LG smart tv.

This is also done on the router? Or something to create on the external drive?

Thats correct but with the correct firmware on the TD-W8968 you can use the USB for for a 3G modem as well so effectively it will do ADSL and 3G on the same device, the other 3G Routers do not have integrated ADSL so you'll have to connect an ADSL modem / Router to the WAN port to do this.

I have a separate ADSL modem anyway.

Just wanted more info on setting up that DLNA server.

Hi Guys

We'll be loading another Uniterm competition and reverse auction onto the MYBB site this morning, I'll post details once they've been listed.
