Lucky bstard. I reckon i have too many trees in my area and the nearest highsite is in a dip putting a lot of rock between me and it. I dont even get 10Mbps

6 Meter mast on top of my already 4 Meter highpoint, which is 10Meters off the ground made no difference. I need to go 15 meters and up to get any good signal based on Google earth calculations.Get your unit mounted on pole if it's a ODU. Night and day difference. Of all the installs mentioned on this board, I probably take the cake when it comes to bad location. Check this thread.
5G ODU - Professional antenna installer or DIY?
So need to make a plan and max exposure to my outdoor CPE. Current location not ideal with standard brackets that came with unit. Is there anyone out there that can advise please. My idea is to get unit higher into the air. Not sure what limitations there are, is lightning protection necessary...mybroadband.co.za

And 15 Meters is costly because then it involves decent lightning conductors which require additional installation of another Mast that is 20 Meters in height.
At that installation cost its just not worth it as I'm already looking at R15 000 for a propper lightning conductor. Them copper is expensive.
Very possible.Something else wrong then. I have 3.4m pole (aluminium 60x2.8mm) mounted 6.5m off the ground and it was night and day difference, even with huge trees around me. Something better than nothing but my lightning protection is 12mm bare copper strand connected to 1.2m meter copper earth spike. ODU at 45 degree under pole. In any event even with 15k install I doubt that ODU will survive, like you say not worth it. Your towers might be having technical difficulties, not fully operational yet.
Signal Stats?Need some advice from the RAIN community.
I ordered 5g and received it last Friday.
However, I'm only getting 4g and I get about 60Mbps down and 30Mbps up.
I have zero 5g coverage despite the coverage map saying I do.
I am trying to get onto the roof to see if I can get 5g up there but I have my doubts I will see anything better up there.
Should I rather return the product or use it as 4g?
I havent contacted support because of time, but thinking of trying that when im at the house again.

Sorry wasnt home to provide the stats earlier.
Thanks for the advice. Have started a live chat, and while at position 3 in the queue, my rain connection dropped and I lost my positionYou get 60Mbps down and 30Mbps up on Rain 4G. Wow just wow.
That said might just be very bad luck that the 5G part is down on the tower. Start a live chat and ask them to check if the closest 5G tower to your address is down. They will be able to tell you.
If you are in coverage according to the map then you should at least get some signal even if it's weak. the fact that you don't get ANY 5G signal sound to me like a tower outage rather than a coverage issue.

Based on the feedback ive seen my 4G stats seemed really good, and im hoping it is a case of the tower being down. Im almost at the end of my 7 day period and if I dont have 5G, im thinking of rather returning the device and walking away. I can get fibre but I was attracted by the big 5G speeds at a really good price. The rain in JHB over the weekend has made it hard for me to get onto the roof and try get better signal. So far the roof hasnt made a difference at all.
Here are my 4G speeds from the past few days:

@Fcon_VproYeah your 4G speeds are really good which is very surprising. The signal stats are equally impressive at -65d the tower is really close and if 5G comes back on that tower the speeds will probably be impressive with those signal stats.
That said you might want to get in touch with Rain and if they won't guarantee that you can walk away later then it's up to you to walk away or not. They should not even be charging you anything if you aren't even getting 5G. Up to you but yeah tower outages is a problem with Rain it seems.
Hi Gents,
My area went live today with 5G, with only ADSL coverage and no fibre for the foreseeable future. I am really considering it.
What is the model of the IDU that you get?
Also, let say someone is maxing the download on this connection, how is the ping stability ?
@Fcon_Vpro
Remember, it is now month to month. Perhaps make sure you are on that package and then you can test for another month.
