what would your suggestions be? should I get this? I have Netflix, but that's turning to crap... still love hulu but would actually like to watch sports now... don't mind paying the $20 p/m if it comes with sports and some good content like uk/us Netflix and kids programs...

BTW, anyone tried out Bein sports?

Based on their website the $20 package isnt going to get you a lot of sport. There's ESPN… and that's about it. ESPN does show SuperRugby though. If you want to add the sports package, which includes beIN sports, then that's an additional $5. Likewise the kids package, which includes Nick and Disney Jnr/XD, is also $5.

That is the Sling Orange package for $20 before the $5 add-ons. The Sling Blue for $25 has more channels and more sports - Fox Sports 1&2, NBC etc. This gets you lots of sports including Formula One, golf and tennis. For soccer this covers all the leagues and UEFA Champions and Europa Leagues, except La Liga. For La Liga you add the $5 Sports Extra add-on to get BeIn Sports.

Depending on your sporting interests and the exchange rate DSTV Extra/Compact / Premium does not look that bad compared to these workarounds.

I've already got Fox and NBC sports and tbh they're not that great - useful during the olympics if I didn't also have the BBC app which is free. beIN looks interesting but I see you can also get a $6.99 package and a roku app from FuboTV which includes beIN so that's another option.

EDIT: If it's F1 you're interested in Channel 4 in the UK has coverage of these to look forward to:

28 August Belgian Grand Prix
4 September Italian Grand Prix
2 October Malaysia Grand Prix
30 October Mexican Grand Prix
27 November Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Espn makes up in the area where nbc sports and fox sports lacks.

Nbc is king for the olympics. They got dozens and dozens of differnt events live..even show the events on USA and Bravo in their NBC app.

Thanks bwana and azg... i'll try out the free trial they have.. I like soccer and cricket.. so maybe bein sports? Or any other channel that has that? Dont mind spending R400-R500 on good content a month...just will not support multiscum at all

If only there was something for rugby. Even 6 nations would be great. Tried iptv streams on plex but they don't last too long

Six nations is easy. Between itv and the bbc all matches are covered.

I've recently signed up for the trial. Very disappointing though. Maxes out at a miserly 1.5mb bit rate 'best quality' on my droid box. On PC I'm not given a current bit rate but it looks much the same.

Sling considers 1.5mb "high quality". Ludicrously they even have a 'low quality' option for 300kbs! :erm:

I set mine to "Best Quality" and it looks no different from the DSTV HD channels. I am using a mini pc connected to TV.

How fast is your line and what OS?

I've read claims online that the app running on pre-android 5 Lollipop maxes out at 3.7mb. My box is pre KitKat.

It's probably 'the adaptive bit rate' BS though. Iplayer in the browser won't go above 1.7mb but using kodi I can now, upgraded my line to 10mb, stream Iplayer @ 3.1 perfectly fine.
