You should have made a backup of your ROM before rooting. As far as I know, you need to install the stock ROM from scratch to overwrite the one you have now. Best you type *#1234# on your phone, take down that info and download the appropriate ROM that matches your phone. Even then, the bootlogo will go missing, so either way, you have a problem (MTN will see that their bootlogo is missing and assume you installed other firmware). Another issue you may have is that your custom binary counter may have gone to 1, which means if they see this, they could refuse to repair your phone, because they know you loaded another ROM or kernel onto it. A USB Jig can get rid of it. This is from what I've read. I hope there is an easier way to unroot, so I'll do some more research and keep an eye on this thread.
With Vodacom, this isn't really an issue. They repair it anyway. If you can't unroot, just take it back and hope they don't worry about it as well.

Hi thanks,

When I first got the phone there was no mtn logo when booting (i remember this) :) and also I have made my USB jig order from bidorbuy so i think thats sorted. Will this be possible if i take one of my friends phone (mtn stock) and make that backup and then install it onto my phone?

Okay, cool. I suppose you could do that but I'd advise against it. Rather download the stock rom from this thread on xda and install it. Much safer and it's a nice clean install.

Do you want to install a new version of Android or just another version of what you currently have? If you want a new version, I recommend XILA2. Otherwise just check for another XWKI4 version and install that.

I have downloaded this GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XILA2_I9100XXKL1_I9100XEUKH2.7z
Do you think MTN would know?

Probably not, but the sales code on the box... what does it say? You might need to change it to match that. It should be 3 letters, like XFV or something. You can check it by typing *#272*<your IMEI>#
You can download the one you want from the same thread and xda and flash it via Odin.

EDIT: Fixed my typo :p

I edited my post now :p

Try this to get sales code - *2767*4387264636#

EDIT: I just tried it now and it works. My sales code is the same as before (XFV). I don't think the firmware will wipe the sales code, so don't even worry about this :) Just flash the new firmware in Odin.

Did you type this into your dialer? I just did and mine works. The second line says GTI9100 bla bla bla and then the sales code is right next to it. E.g:

Code:
Information Location Example

Model Number Settings > About > Model Number GT-I9100
Android Version Settings > About > Android Version 2.3.3
Product Code Keypad > *2767*4387264636# GT-I9100LKACOA
Firmware Versions Keypad > *#1234# PDA: I9100XWKE2
                                                                                    PHONE: I900XXKDJ
                                                                                    CSC: I900OXFKD4
Kernel Version Setting > About > Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE2-CL187606
                                                                                    root@DELL101 #2

Like I said, I don't think it matters anymore. Just install the new firmware.

Dude Google 'Check Fus', go to the site and download the PC app, then use the presets to chose the I9100, you'll be able to download the latest lies firmware for your phone, it will decrypt the zip, extract it, and flash with Odin :D
