Unshaped ADSL Routing

Ok - so i got Unshaped ADSL to get decent Latency to European MMORPG server which i have been playing the last 2 years.

at first it was really great - 260 ~ 280 ms pings which is MORE than good for playing.

Now all of a sudden - i'm getting 340 ~ 500 ms in the day - and avg around 340 ms in the eve. Whereas before i was hitting no more than 280 EVER.

checking Traces i now see Telkom have decided to Route unshaped VIA the USA ? Shaped ADSL still goes via the UK linkup.

Did a pingtest yesterday and was getting better response times from shaped ( uncapped ) than unshaped.

Just wondering if anyone out there has a better solution for decent latency ( 193.252.123.33 )

I don't really worry about 3GB caps etc since i dont download crap from home :| i never hit my cap.

Hiya!

I would complain bitterly about this problem... how can they route your traffic through to the USA when Telkom has access to the Sat-3 cable which as we know runs straight to Europe!!! This is a major stuff up from Telkom's side. Perhaps there is a fault... just make sure you get it checked out ASAP.

I would have a fit if this happened to me. Be sure to include in your complaint that Telkom advertises that you can connect to any gaming server with unshaped ADSL.

haha,

well im awaiting a call from the telkom techies ( who in turn are speaking the the SAIX people ), they claim that i have NEVER routed via the UK with unshaped . To be expected.

They ALSO claim that they CAN'T change the routing for unshaped , because it might affect other services people use. ( then why change MY routing )

Also i can't understand why they don't INFORM people of these changes.

Pisses me off ... avg latency gone from 260 ~ 280 -> 340 ~ 350 !
