SA will come down to needing to provide everything for yourself. Septic tank, borehole with filtration system, solar, gated community etc. And yet, every 4 years, the people keep voting for poor leadership.

Exactly how I see it.

Exisring neighborhoods will wall themselves in with guarded access points just like we have now but in future each enclave will have it's own power supply, school, doctors, shops, maintenance team etc. As discussed in another thread we'd have to make a plan with water but that will certainly be easy if the community work together.

Something like Steyn city but in existing suburbs. It's the only way to stay safe and keep to a reasonable standard of living.

Would love to see that happening, the sooner the better.

Just remember to keep paying your "connection levies" and income tax property tax and VAT and NHI, then all is good.

Eskom has zero generation coming online in the next 2-3 years (excluding renewables) so LS is here to stay. Just spend the bucks and be happy.
Only reason I haven't is I hope to move in 3 years.

I was out and about this weekend. People are still out wearing shorts and t-shirts, enjoying the remnants of warm weather.

It's gonna get worse.
That doesn't really effect demand, other areas could be using a lot.

Yep. It is never going away. 9 of 18 coal stations are set to reach the end of their operational lives by 2035, accounting for ~18,500 MW. Fully operational Kusile and Medupi will only make up ~8,770 MW.

They are 15-years behind and that is with a stable and maintained grid. Eskom is now and forever ''chasing the dragon'' when it comes to putting an end to load shedding.

The now infamous White Paper report made it clear that in 1997 Eskom already knew it would exceed available capacity by 2007. 2002 was identified as the cut-off point where load shedding would be inevitable by the end of the decade (2010) if no action was taken. Kusile and Medupi are still not fully operational nor are they reliable, 15-years after we crossed the capacity threshold. Both plants should've been online before 2010 with still more being brought online throughout the previous decade.
