Good Day

I recently upgraded from a smart account to the FNB gold cheque account for the sole reason of being able to take a ps4 :D
While doing the upgrade, the lady said i can get a Platinum account but i said nah, just give me the gold one.

Today i take delivery of the card and its a platinum one.

I then went into online banking to compare the 2 options because i didnt agree to this, but i couldnt see where they mention the different fees associated with the accounts at all:erm:

It just seems like a get more benefits with regards to ebucks (never use)and fuel purchasers(I wouldnt mind at all).

Can someone please advise if i should make a noise of just shut up and enjoy fuel savings?

Log in to inet banking and see what account you have .

yeah platinum is worth it , free 4mbs uncapped adsl , 2.5 % back on all purchases etc if you on level 5.

Worth the extra R35 over gold.

I'd kick up a fuss purely because you asked for Gold and received Platinum.

OT: Seems like FNB are just giving out the Platinum cards like they used to give out the old gold ones, at this rate we'll see petrol attendants rocking Black AmEx cards.

It's a bit of a mission to get to level 5 though, no? I'm stuck on level 1 and it's going to take ages to get to higher levels. I push between R10k and R20k per month through my credit card, which earns some eBucks at least. How do you gain points to move to the next level easily/quickly? The methods I have found generally involve going into debt (overdraft, home loans, etc) which I simply don't have a need for.

The more qualifying products you have, the higher your reward level. I'm on level 4 at the moment and am happy with the benefits, level 5 is a bit of a mission.

Some things that will help you move up:

  • Have a qualifying FNB Cheque product
  • Minimum deposit met each calendar month
  • Registered for inContact
  • Given FNB marketing permission
  • Account is in good standing
  • Account is active
  • Register for, and transact via Online, Cellphone, Telephone Banking or FNB App at least once a month
  • Use an overdraft facility, Temporary Loan or Revolving Loan
  • Hold more FNB banking products like an active Savings Pocket with a minimum balance of R2 000 and Bank Your Change facility, Fluid Account or Credit Card
  • Have an active Smartphone, Tablet or Laptop through FNB
  • Use Insurance products linked to your cheque account (Optional Debt Protection, Smart Device Insurance, Roadside Assistance)
  • Receive email statements
  • Keep your FNB Cheque Account open for three years or more
  • Swipe your Cheque Card for purchases
  • Practice good banking conduct like purchasing goods online, not performing any branch transactions and making use of Cash@Till withdrawals > ATM withdrawals

I made a document how to get there without spending to much extra cash ,but includes having a smart device.

1.Use one of the following credit products: An overdraft facility of R500 or more where you use at least 10%, e.g. on an overdraft of R5 000 ensure that you use at least R500.

Ok this is the tricky one , You need use 10% of your overdraft or more then 10% on your cheque account , but keep in mind that if you use more then R200 on overdraft fnb will charge you R30 bucks. Set your overdraft to R500 and go R60 minus on your account , but remember all money needs be cleared of your account and your account needs to be in the minus overnight , you will see under your account there be interest amount if you did it right.

2. An active Savings Pocket with a minimum balance of R2 000 and Bank Your Change facility. Keep 2000 bucks in savings pocket all the times.

3. An active Tablet, Smartphone or Laptop contract. have one those devices from fnb.

4. Insurance products linked to your cheque account (Optional Debt Protection, Smart Device Insurance*, Roadside Assistance)
Phone fnb ask for roadside assitance it is R5 a month
Ask for optional debt protection on overdraft it is free , unless you use more then R1000 on your overdraft , which it is R5 per R1000 ovedraft used.

5.An active FNB Credit Card. Easy

6.Emailed statements. Easy

7.Spend on your card by swipes or online shopping.

8.The value of your monthly Cash@Till™ withdrawals exceeds the value of your monthly ATM withdrawals . Draw more cash at till then atm's

9.You have not performed any transactions at branches in the month (use FNB's electronic channels instead!). dont go to a branch

10.You have used your FNB Cheque Card to purchase goods Online . buy Something online , i pay my internet bill online counts also

Regards

Don't be fooled into thinking that you will instantly get all those benefits by simply having a platinum account. It takes a lot of spending and jumping through hoops, so read the rules.

Basically, if you are wealthy enough to be able to afford to pay for adsl without a problem then you get it for free. If you're not wealthy enough then you have to pay for it.

You really can't do anything on a Credit Card. All the action happens on cheque accounts in terms of eBucks. CC is capped at 1% earn level I think, where as on Platinum Cheque account you get up to 2.5% earn rate.

Only matters if you've reached level 4 with your cheque card, in which case you earn 1.2% vs 1% on the credit card. The credit card has a flat earn rate of 1%, while the cheque account starts at only 0.4% for straight shopping. Everything else is identical in terms of eBuck earn rates, as far as I can see.

It seems to be an issue with their new website. I applied for a new credit card and chose a specific design...got sent to me with another. Made a fuss and got my custom-designed card within a few days. Just my 2c :)
