Hi there,

Wondering if this has been discussed a hundred times before.

I have a SE K800i with firmware R1CE001. I am guessing this is really old firmware for the phone as it is hardly mentioned on other forums.

Anyway how do I go about upgrading the firmware, it is something I have never tried and my phone software on the PC or phone itself does not have this feature.

I downloaded this SEUS program but apparently I need a specific USB cable. I have a USB cable but have no idea if it is the correct one, it doesnt seem like it is as it does not install those DCU-60 drivers (by switching phone off then plugging cable in while holding the c button...wtf?!?! anyway :p) . How do I tell if I have a DCU-60 or DCU-11 lol :/ I dont see info on device manager

Also when I launch the SEUS program it updated but then while it was trying to find available firmware or something it must have taken a good 15meg off my cap with no results so I got fed up. (Nevermind the 30meg it takes to download the software, I mean come on I am not installing a blerri HP printer here freaking hell!!)

So now I just want to know before messing around any further, is there a good easy free way to update my dang K800i firmware. Alternatively if I take it to a Vodashop how long will they have my phone for and will they update it to the real latest firmware or their own approved "vodafone latest" firmware like some branded vendors do apparently.

Also before anyone asks yes I have encountered a few bugs and performance issues on the phone and would really like update firmware to fix these. :) tx

EDIT: yes and you can see I am a tad frustrated :/ forgive me :p but help would be much appreciated

I updated my old W800 with the cable that came with the phone, it didn't take too long though (although it may take a while depending on your internet connection), I used the update manager that they have on the SE site.

Yes, you'll have to press c while the phone is switched off (and I cant remember what else) and if you somehow mess that up you'll have to do it over and over until you get it right (like some computer game cheat code).

My phone was noticably faster after I did the update.

The latest firmware is not available for the local Vodacom branded phones. I unbranded mine to be world generic and then updated to the latest firmware. Your cable should work. Download the latest versions of all the k800 software from the SE website first.

Ok thanks :) well I only tried the c thing a few times but nothing happened at all, will give it another bash.

The SE website is chinese or korean something or other if I recall :p will have a quick look if there is a .co.za or .co.uk or something english or if they have an option on the site if I read more. Thanks :)

Hey so it worked :D thanks again guys. Just a little more persistence paid off with your help.

I did not debrand my phone so I might still give that a go in future, will see first how this firmware works. It is now R1KG001. I think that is Vodafone specific firmware but could be wrong.
