Hi guys. I have a question. I currently have a 4mbps line, managed by Afrihost. Since December my adsl has been going down for a few hours each week. When I logged a fault, a openserve technician called and told me the exchange was upgraded and now supports faster speeds. The coverage map still shows 4mbps as being the fastest in my suburb. I was told I'm 3.5 km away from the exchange (although their are closer ones) Is it possible to still try and upgrade my line speed to 8mbps? Is it worth a shot?

Please advise :)

My router statistics

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 10.3 18.7 db
Line Attenuation: 47.5 27.1 db
Data Rate: 5117 508 kbps
Max Rate: 9340 1024 kbps

There is a formula which -- IF you have accurate figures for attenuation and SNR -- allow you to work out how far you are from the exchange ( even Telkom use it )
GO and have a look -- not doing ALL your homework for you ...:)

I think I can get 6-7mbps through the calculation. But the coverage map shows 4mbps as being the fastest on my road.
