They lost that sentiment probably two weeks ago based on the evidence of Ukrainian resistance.

The US restrained themselves in Iraq and Afghanistan because they wanted the support of the populace. They lost. Russia needs to decide: at all costs victory or whatever it is they are doing.

Playing devils advocate here, but isn't that exactly what Nulan did herself? Preemptively stated that if there is an attack it will definitely be of Russian origin.
How would you prove either side during wartime besides just picking a side to believe?
By the time the truth comes out the event will already have had the desired consequences.
