I assumed that due to the corridors that most advancements would have been temporarily brought into suspension,

Evidence indicates Volnovakha in eastern Ukraine has fallen to Russian-backed forces

There's growing evidence that the town of Volnovakha in eastern Ukraine has fallen to Russian forces and their allies in the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic.

The city had been surrounded almost since the beginning of Russia's invasion but had been fiercely defended by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian defense ministry's spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, said that a "group of troops of the Donetsk People's Republic liberated the city of Volnovakha" and several surrounding settlements.

Konashenkov said that the militia had advanced about six kilometers (about 3.7 miles) and continued to tighten the encirclement of the besieged city of Mariupol.

Some social media videos from the city showed Russian soldiers and vehicles in several neighborhoods, as well as abandoned Ukrainian tanks. Other videos showed widespread destruction in Volnovakha.

The apparent fall of Volnovakha — which is halfway between Donetsk and Mariupol — allows Russian forces to consolidate their control of the Donbas region.

Earlier Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Volnovakha remained completely blocked to humanitarian relief convoys, but the Ukrainian authorities have not acknowledged that the city has fallen under Russian control.

Not good, news, the separatist republics are making gains and those gains are likely to be argued as 'their' territory which Russia will ultimately take.

why?

corridors aren't ceasefires, I assumed it literally just meant there are certain routes that shouldn't be attacked so that they can be used for safe passage, everything else remains fair game

I see it is marked on the Wiki map, so the Russians and separatists will enclose Mariupol. The Ukrainians might choose to withdraw here and regroup.

All fake.

I wonder which town in the world is sacrificing itself for Ukraine

Even satellite photos from commercial satellites are fake

Just the first video.

There's absolutely no identifiable markings.
No Ukrainian shops cars or number plates.

Could just as well be Syria.

(I'm not claiming it is Syria, my position is the Nazi's deserved it.)

Corridors are also not open to military passage, meaning that they can't be crossed by either side and have a protected zone or is supposed to have a protected zone. This is also part of the reason Russia argued passage through their occupied territory so that they could continue their advance, encircling locations.

Bad what if example. Have you read the admission of FSB colonel that it was him and his squad who actually started the war in Ukraine in 2014?
Let's try a "what if" scenario shall we?

What if the EFF started shelling the WC because of secession talks. That went on for years and the US started supplying the WC with training and weapons? Eventually the US issues an ultimatum to the ANC to stop the hostilities and to denounce the EFF or face invasion. The ANC refuses while cosying up to another military power. How would you feel in that situation about a US invasion of SA?

* waits for naZBot cries about "whataboutism"...

The desperation to cast any doubt at all on anything that makes Russia look bad, is practically palpable.

I wish I could get it through to them... It's too late. Russia looks like dog s*** turned over.

How does that make Russia look bad.

The only group here that looks bad for me is the Ukrainian army retreating into the cities and using civilians as human shields

reading back exactly what you sound like is hard, isn't it?

I can imagine I sound like a drunk when I speak exactly like you, not a huge leap
Ok, had the whole day off then, day drinking and singing some good old Soviet war songs then.
