Biden administration requests $32.5 billion in Ukraine aid and coronavirus funds as spending talks continue

Lawmakers must reach an agreement by March 11, and Congress is at odds over what to include in a big funding package

The Biden administration is asking Congress to approve $32.5 billion to bolster Ukraine against Russian aggression and shore up the United States in the battle against the coronavirus.

The official request arrives as Democrats and Republicans continue to tussle over a broader aid package that many lawmakers hope to append to a still-forming deal to fund the government. Absent imminent action, critical federal agencies and programs are set to run out of money after March 11, imperiling Washington’s ability to respond to both crises in full.

To aid Ukraine, the Biden administration is calling on lawmakers to approve $10 billion, hoping to address the emerging humanitarian crisis in the country in the face of a worsening Russian onslaught. The figure also includes assistance to bolster Ukraine’s defenses, protect its electrical grid from disruption, and further assist other European allies, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the plans.

$10 billion in aid to Ukraine. I guess having it 'overshadowed' by the $22.5 billion to replenish US key public health programs will make the $10 billion aid to Ukraine an easier sell to Congress, but the US would want their money now in Ukraine. It is the largest aid proposal by any NATO/EU nation to date.

in 2015 around 1060 people died of domestic violence in Russia. Of them, 756 were men and 304 women

And people here still want Russian brides!

It is very sad but is just part of the lack of general human rights in Russia.
Drank themselves to death, or maybe some extra babushka shade in the soup for a few weeks.

Russian cherries know how to throw hands that's for sure.

So I have got to read the transcript of the conversation.

A coup typically has 3 components :
Seizing control of current govt.
Removal of that govt / leader.
Inserting new govt / leader.
How was 2014 not a coup?

So by your way of thinking.... it's OK if you just manipulate someone into suicide but not OK if you do the job yourself.

You can't compare manipulation 1 person into suicide to supporting democracy.

Just because the US assists democracy minded people doesn't mean US is bad.

Sometimes these people want that for themselves. People simply don't want Russian domination.

If Russia was democratic, they wouldn't mind Ukraine being democratic too.

You are glossing over far more fundamental issues here.

So far the vast majority of Ukrainians is opposing the Russian attack.

You are poisoning the well.

Russia and her people are OK with a very patriarchal system. There is some democracy but Kremlin knows best.

Ukraine wants their own system, inspired more on the West.

That's all there is to it here.

NATO is not a security threat to Moscow. In fact NATO is a source of stability because Ukrainian forces would be under central command. They'd have no access to nukes.

Only thing is that Russia would not be able to intimidate them as much as they have.

Does anyone know what the actual rules are regarding South African citizens heading over to Ukraine to go and fight? Our local WhatsApp group has three laaitjies soliciting donations to get themselves over there.
Fast forward 3 months, and the war is over, and they still living with their parents.

Donations went to buying Bush camo, 2 ply toilet paper and lekke North Face jackets from Cape Union Mart. Cause you know Ukraine gets a bit cold in winter.

Don't forget 1 or 2 authentic paintball guns that look like AR-15's

Russian President Vladimir Putin's nuclear threat is prompting Europeans to panic-buy iodine because they believe it may protect them from radiation poisoning, multiple reports say.

Some pharmacies in Bulgaria, Poland, and the Czech Republic have sold out of iodine since Putin launched an invasion into Ukraine and ordered Russia's nuclear weapons to be placed on high alert, Reuters reported.
