Dan Carlin mentions that there's a real threat of Russia using a small tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine to show the West he's serious and get them to back off.

Turned on BBC World now and they are talking about the possibility of the same thing.

We just have to wait and see

I've been listening to Dan Carlin's Blitz: The Destroyer of Worlds podcast where he talks extensively about nuclear weapons. He mentions escalation dominance. If Russia uses tac nukes they will begin a chain reaction where we end up with strategic nukes being used anyway.

You use a tac nuke, I use a tac nuke. You use a stronger tac nuke, I use a stronger tac nuke. Eventually someone uses a strategic weapon and a city goes up in a mushroom cloud.

If you are going to use a nuke, don't waste everyone's time. Swing for the fences and fvck sh*t up one time, don't drag the inevitable out.

So him being pissed with NATO gives him the right to invade a sovereign country?
I mean all things said and done. If Putin's problem is with anything relating to the agreements around Russian withdrawal from East Germany, then in fairness he should be trying to re-annexe East Germany now.

But no... Putin's disingenuous, belligerent statement through word and action is basically: "NATO goes back, in my opinion, on our agreements - Russia goes back to invading any country it wants."

It is so far removed from reason that reason is not even in sight.

EDITORIAL | Ukraine: History will show SA sided with the oppressor

The truth of the matter is that South Africa has been an oppressive government even after 1994. Only thing that happened after 1994 is that the ANC sided with communists and turned South Africa into a Communist country. They still oppress and discriminate against minorities today.

So, history will show that the ANC is just as bad as the Apartheid government, if not even worse, and nothing have changed since they took over.
Mandela famously said, “it’s a common mistake that political journalists make, that your enemies must be our enemies, they’re not. Those people that support the struggle, not just in rhetoric but with arms and financial aid. Will forever be supported by us.”

Proposed in December

I guess they're too busy writing up sanctions to bother maybe pulling this apart & seeing what could be done.
I suspect that's not part of the plan till some later date.
Seems like whoever was highlighting some things, selectively chose to ignore others

I thought the USSR supported ANC not Russia. So USSR = Russia?

Confirmation of some high ranking Russian officer who have been killed.

I see there is some mystery surrounding his death, not that he is dead, but how he died. From being poisoned to his parachute not opening, and everything in between, but it seems that he died in a shot down helicopter crash in some Southern incursion point. Russia is sending their commanders up deep... his Russian rank is UK brigadier equivalent, or so it is said. I don't know who is who in Russia, and I only know one John McClane though I see some other McCain brought up here many a time.

NOTE: NOT VERIFIED

Oh ok, so because they did.. its ok for Putin to do it...
you are missing the point completely..

I really do hope you were this vocal in all the other wars, including Iraq / Vietnam. The problem is every war / occupation is wrong and never ends well for either side.

BUT, they can all be averted

Do civilians surrender? I thought only combatants surrender. Non combatants are occupied but to surrender you must have been fighting.

I suppose yes, those women and children did surrender.
The current law is for all men 18-60 to take up arms and fight.
So any unarmed combatants have surrendered.

This is all rubbish argumentation. It's like if you weren't vocal then, you can't speak now. How do you know some of us weren't vocal? You were probably still in diapers when Serbia was bombed.

no one does, but the US and her allies did it in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc etc. This has been going on since men picked up sticks
Not sure Korea or Vietnam count as invasions when both South Korea and South Vietnam wanted US assistance. Agree about Iraq and Afghanistan.

The law may be such but if an individual did not take up arms he is no fighting them.

But that just muddies the water. Point is that people over 60, women and children were also forced to surrender because starvation, cold, no water and bombs make civilians do that.

Well I suppose it's true, those Ukrainians really were pro Russia all along otherwise they'd do a Banzai attack on those tanks.

Afghanistan harboured and allowed terror groups to stage 911 and other attacks.

But compare the Russian vs American Afghan war. It's telling that even the Taliban hate the Russians more.

Iraq is also slightly questionable (at least initially) since Iraq kind of invaded Kuwait
