They do but when you have forced conscription, weapons being handed out and the phrasing loaded for us, that points to a society using bodies as meat shields. One thing to ask for a weapon and get support/arms, other is very differant.

This is how people have fought. Even in 1944 Warsaw the Nazis acknowlegded the people with guns and armbands as combatants and they were given POW status after their surrender.

My twitter feed had a re-tweet from EFF leadership basically supporting Russia and thanking them for pushing back on the evil "West".

They're a bunch of dangerous delusionals.

People dying like flies. Very bad and all for what? The people in charge aren't dying.

Dying we will hear because of "genocide" in the east of Ukraine. Something which the Russians didn't take to the Hague or work with the Security Council until suddently they go hardball and start to kill children in the Ukraine.

Any civilian deaths are on the Russian authorities. They are completely responsible here.

Russian President Vladimir Putin chose this war, Joe Biden said in his Thursday afternoon speech to America regarding the conflict in Ukraine. That is true, but U.S. elites also had something to do with Putin’s ugly and destructive choice—a role that Democrats and Republicans are eager to paper over with noble-sounding rhetoric about the bravery of Ukraine’s badly outgunned military. Yes, the Ukrainian soldiers standing up to Putin are very brave, but it was Americans that put them in harm’s way by using their country as a weapon, first against Russia and then against each other, with little consideration for the Ukrainian people who are now paying the price for America’s folly.
It is not an expression of support for Putin’s grotesque actions to try to understand why it seemed worthwhile for him to risk hundreds of billions of dollars, the lives of thousands of servicemen, and the possible stability of his own regime in order to invade his neighbor. After all, Putin’s reputation until this moment has always been as a shrewd ex-KGB man who eschewed high-risk gambles in favor of sure things backed by the United States, like entering Syria and then escalating forces there. So why has he adopted exactly the opposite strategy here, and chosen the road of open high-risk confrontation with the American superpower?
Yes, Putin wants to prevent NATO from expanding to Russia’s border. But the larger answer is that he finds the U.S. government’s relationship with Ukraine genuinely threatening. That’s because for nearly two decades, the U.S. national security establishment under both Democratic and Republican administrations has used Ukraine as an instrument to destabilize Russia, and specifically to target Putin.

The Russians know very well because they supposedly have their irregulars in Donbas and other breakaway or re-annexed areas. The also had partisans in WW2 although mostly they were not very good. In the West they robbed the peasants more than fight the Germans.

yeah the wife started talking about this yesterday, the ua gov calling their citizens back to fight and basically act as meat shields between the russian forces and them, getting them all worked up etc.

i thought it was a bit much but i see it is being mentioned more and more.

Not with forced conscription in play.

This is how Ukrainians and Russians roll. You guys must know that these people are intermixed and this is how they fight. Exactly the same would happen if the Russians were being attacked.

Also how would you react? When was the last time the West was under such attack at home?
I remember the Boers also fighting very hard against the Brits and the Brits needed to burn farms and depopulate them to stop the support for the hit and run guerilla war tactics which occurred.

Do you really believe they are targeting children ? Like honestly?

Not deliberately. But war is not the only answer, then you make the decision which leads to death of people for no reason. You start a war of aggression, you are responsible for all the deaths.

It would be different if this was Russia's existential struggle or Ukraine had attacked them and they were doing what they could to defend themselves.

The warring parties must take all actions to not kill or harm civilians. If the Russian munitions are not competent to not do that, starting a war knowing you are semi competent to stop avoidable civilian death is folly. OK, by civilised standards. We know what happened in Chechnya.

Big differance between willing guerilla force vs conscription.
