For the time being.

Perhaps a longer time than that.... things are not looking good for the world with the China - Russia cooperation and now China including North Korea too... Big trouble on the horizon. Big change coming...

And should they also be able to make demands on Finland and Sweden?
they didn't, go read the damn articles rather than the sensationalist headlines

1: it was not Putin talking, it was that blonde lady foreign minister
2: she never made a threat, she merely said joining NATO would upset the security balance

China has had North Korea's back since North Korea's creation.

China, I already told you, don't care about Russian ambitions. In fact China would want a weaker Russia which can sell oil and resources for less and there are beautiful territories Chinese can actually put to good use the Russians are wasting.

Look, if they use nukes, they're also dead. Nobody is this crazy.
Russia is, which part of that do you not understand?

what kind of mentality do you think it took to defeat Napoleon and Hitler? one of not caring about survival, only killing at any cost

not many countries have a longer or more consistent track record than Russia on this front: if you threaten them they will absolutely go for a mutually assured destruction attack, not even in doubt for a millisecond

Your solution is just a Russian imperial wet dream.

Russia is not special. They don't get to decide who joins what alliance or does not join. They have a responsibility on their own territory to their own people and that ends there. Russia is not some super race of god like beings.

Russia must come to terms that NATO will expand and NATO will strengthen.
Russia instead should, become democratic and open. Realise and come to terms, as the UK, France did, Japan did and many other countries did, that their empire days are over. They need to act responsibly.

Until such a time NATO will just get stronger, European countries will develop and buy more US hardware.
Advanced ABM capabilities will be put in place.

Russia will be isolated. Russia has to make a choice. Be just and not paranoid. Respect others and they will be respected. Threats are not the way to gain respect because Russia can't change its neighbours and they are here for the long haul and they remember. It's better to just get along.

Balance of power. It is well established political theory. If you don't have balance you have war and tyranny

Thinking that NATO can just expand is arrogant and stupid.

EU official "strongly condemns" Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine

From CNN's Sharon Braithwaite

European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said Saturday he "most strongly" condemns Russian attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/25/europe/ukraine-russia-videos-civilians-intl-cmd/index.html
"This is a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law. Shelling of civilian infrastructure needs to stop now," Lenarčič said on his verified Twitter account.

A residential block near Kyiv's second airport was struck by a missile or rocket fire early Saturday.
Images and video from the scene showed a large impact some ten floors up.

I don’t speak Russian but the agreed translation from the spokesperson was

“Finland and Sweden should not base their security on damaging the security of other countries and their accession to NATO can have detrimental consequences and face some military and political consequences,"

Are you saying that she said it without the knowledge or consent of the dictator?

Either way, seems pretty clear it’s a threat.

Yes we know Russia blinked when they wanted to put those missiles in Cuba. They also blinked with the Berlin airlift. So far, the only country to actually use nukes has have been the States. They would use them if someone is crazy enough to attack another country because that means the leadership has become irrational and then it becomes an existential game. Nobody will try the Americans.

Russia was helped by lend lease and ate American tinned food, drove American Studebakers and even the T34 is built on an American chassis.

Napoleon was too weak.

There was nothing special about the wars Russia fought. Russians will not want to get nuked.

You are watching too many movies.

I'm saying it was her mouth, and it was not a threat, it's a simple observation that some actions upset the balance

or are you of the opinion we do not need balance in the world? we need NATO to be the undisputed military power with no challenge whatsoever? sheer madness!

you are still behind the times, the NATO generals and Biden have already realized this week some countries are just meant to be taken seriously

you'll figure it out someday

You don't defend a minority of people by starting a war which has already killed civilians.

This has destabilised the area around Europe and 1 billion people are not happy with this at all.
That works both ways, most people just deny one side of the facts.

The only people that lose here are the Ukrainians.

The average Russian is not invested in this. Keep that in mind. They know there is a better way than Putin's way.
