No no...it's never that! It is ALWAYS a racist issue...
And I don't think the label "student" carries any weight.

I cannot imagine that a student with proof, and documentation would not be allowed into a country as a refugee - unless that is what is happening, then yes, that would be terrible.

PS: How active are the embassies in assisting their citizens? Or was it a case of too little too late

Where did you get that from...a WW2 movie?

Why would a working tank be abandoned?

A damaged tank cannot be field stripped for any vital usable "spares".
Burning or a significant shape change is the simplest way to tell if the tank is dead. A tank that is still mostly intact can still be operational in some form.

It could've run out of fuel which was has been happening to the Russian's the last couple of days. You can strip radios, gun sights, light weapons from the vehicle in the field. You can also recover a partially damaged tank to a field depot to for strip more significant parts.

Of course there's a lot more to the story, but it doesn't justify bloodshed.

Recall the Cuban missile Crisis? - Cuba to Washington = 1800km
NE Ukraine to Moscow <500km

They did try getting something done about it before this & no one wanted to play ball

'Dozens of people were killed in rocket strikes by Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Monday morning, Ukraine’s home office adviser Anton Herashchenko said.

“Kharkiv has just been massively fired upon by grads [rockets]. Dozens of dead and hundreds of wounded,” he said in a post on Facebook.'

It think Putin has lit a fire under many western countries and institutions that were drifting off into nationalism (think Brexit). Now NATO becomes more relevant then ever before and previously neutral countries like Sweden and Finland are wondering if they will be gobbled up next
Ukraine was vulnerable because they are poor and corrupt. Which meant their internal politics was unstable to say the least. How do you think Hunter Biden, who knows f-all about energy and can speak Ukranian as well as I can, end up on the board of an energy company in Ukraine.

The same cannot be said of Finland and Sweden. Both are rich and stable countries. Finland especially doesn't f__k around with its military, especially since they share a land border with Russia.

What exactly is shelling? The guns from the tanks or just general gun fire?

122/152 mm towed field guns
152/203 mm self-propelled howitzers
240 mm self-propelled heavy mortars
122 mm multiple rocket launchers

Tanks are only useful in direct fire roles when it comes to shelling.
